There were a lot of pumpkins in the contest that were painted: white, lime green, hot pink, etc. But the two that won first and second place were both natural (the pumpkins themselves, although there were unusual props that surrounded them). So you might be onto something with that. But if I had to choose between an entry that would win first place and one that was creative and unique, I'd definitely have the latter.

LOVE it! Simply amazing! Extra Krispy Kudos to ya!!! :)

Your loss to lesser pumpkins reminds me of the year I lost a costume contest at a previous job.

Anyone that dressed up was entered but one entire dept. made masks on sticks with pics of other co-workers & the bosses did a skit about work & the management. It was a cute & funny skit but it had abso-fricking-lutely nothing to do with dressing up in costume. They just made masks. Masks on sticks. I still get pissed off thinking about it!!! Masks on sticks. FUUUUDDDDGGGEEEE!!!!

Me, I went with my go-to costume, 80s rocker. I'm old enough to have actual "vintage" stuff AKA "crap I really used to wear that I kept & pulled outta the closet." I even had my old electric guitar & dumped the Jack Daniels out of the bottle & replaced it with reeeeally strong tea & swigged out of it once in a while.

Everyone asked "Where did you get that jacket, Bon Jovi shirt & black spandex with red zebra cut out pants?!?!" They looked at me like I was nuts when I said "It's mine, I wore it back in the day"

One girl dressed as Monica Lewinsky, others did the usual witch, vampire, & I can't recall what else. This was an interior design firm, I'd expected much more creativity than I saw, I was really disappointed but I thought I was a shoo-in for 1st place.

Guess who won 1st place?

Not me.

Yep, the dept. that DIDN'T DRESS UP, just made masks on sticks & did a skit about the bosses.

I was told they win every year with that. I did come in tied at 2nd with the Monica Lewinsky girl & everyone else thought I should've won but whaddaya gonna do when the bosses are the judges?:(

You should've won too . I guess they weren't fans of horror movies or just didn't know what the hell they were doin'.

At least the folks HERE know your talent & we appreciate & celebrate it!!:D I would've voted for you to be #1 too!!

spiderqueen,

First, your pumpkin is way too cool! I wish there were some way you could preserve it and keep it forever! Does anyone know a way?

And you should definitely have won 1st, just as RCIAG should have in the costume contest described in the post above! :) I wish we all could have had a say!

I've been trying to find that pic of me in that costume. I have a feeling it's on the big old desktop in our office & if it is it'll take me forever.

Thanks. :)
My husband is still mad about unfairly losing a costume contest years ago. He had a nice homemade Jedi costume with the tunic, tabards, robe, lightsaber, boots, etc. and lost to one of those inflatable Sumo wrestler costumes you can buy.

Thanks for the compliment. Even if there was a way to do that, it's a bit too late now. It's six months old and is really beginning to get mushy.

Wow, that is VERY cool!! I actually just watched the film last night. I had previously purchased it on DVD when it came out, and re-bought it on Blu-Ray over the holidays.

while I was watching the movie, I was looking up things about it on wikipedia and stumbled upon the "halfway to halloween" thing which was AWESOME!!

and none of that really applies to your creation lol but I felt like sharing.

I wish I had something like that in my collection! Very awesome work. You should (if you have time) make a few of them and try selling them. I know many people here (including myself) would probably want to purchase one!

You should have won for sure. I was also cheated 2 years ago, I was deemed "too scary" at my work when it came for the Halloween contests. Me and my cubicle. It was so mind blowing I didn't win, everyone was dumb fonded. I am sure you felt like I did, just wanted to scream out how stupid the judges are and go kick everyone's theeth out.

I have considered making one with a foam pumpkin so it could last forever. You know those ones you can buy to carve that are supposed to look just like real pumpkins but won't die? I've also considered just making a Sam head out of a styrofoam ball, it wouldn't be pumpkin-related at all but just a Sam replica. Then it could be entirely covered with burlap and look more accurate to the movie.

Actually, I was pretty content with winning third, but if I hadn't placed at all I might have been more angry. But I knew in advance that judges are usually stupid and don't pick the one who deserves to win, so I had already considered the possibility of not winning anything at all. Too bad that you were deemed "too scary" -- it's Halloween, what were they expecting? The scariest thing should have won.

Yeah, I entered a pumpkin carving contest once. I could have sworn the rules said "original designs" but the first and second place were just standard Pumpkin Masters patterns. The only reason I placed third is because there were only three entries!

This is great! How long did it take you to make?
Thanks. With all the planning I did, I think it took about one-and-a-half to two weeks, but I'd say I spent about a week making it, and most of that time was spent letting the paint dry. The actual work probably would have only taken a few hours if the paint hadn't needed time to dry.
