where do you find the space to store all your props?? most of my props are small, and i am starting to try building some bigger ones... but storage is going to be a hassle and to not damage them till i use them.. and i don't really want to rent a space...i need all my money for buying stuff/props not wasting it on storage... any ideas???

like tetris!

I did a post (how playing TETRIS helps packing) when I finally packed everything. Sadly, I did over spilled into the garage this year. I will need for sure sell some stuff later this year (ahhh I don't want too, but I reached beyond my capacity).
Here is what is in my basement.

Aside from the collection that is growing ALL over the house I have one spare bedroom that is stacked floor to ceiling. All you can do is open the door, you can't get in and I haven't seen the back wall of it in 15 years. I don't even remember the size of the room...it's horrible :( LOL!!!

The photos posted above by osenator point out one solution: Plan before you buy. I used to have a bunch of assorted black lights, partly because I couldn't justify the cost of one of those expensive pro units. But totalling up al the money I spent on fixtures, bulbs and extension cords showed that over the course of a couple of years I spent more than the $169 pro light would have cost. I sold off most of my smaller lights and now use (and store) just the one.

My stuff is currently in the attic, shed, garage, on the front porch, outside on both sides of the house, in two different bedrooms downstairs, also in the family room downstairs, in the office upstairs and on the dining table....oh yeah, still have a couple boxes of orange lights and a blucky skull in my truck.

Without knowing what your place looks like, it's hard to figure out where to store stuff. Do you have a garage? carport? shed? deck? basement? spare bedroom? Some stuff you can just leave outside to weather. I have a few coffins doing that right now.

i don't have a ton of space at home.most is in the game/storage room and under the house. i also seem to have a extensive christmas collection...and unfortunaty my boyfriend doesn't share my love of haunting and decorating as i do ... he is however very supportive and patient.( thanks you hon!!!). and i am a master stacker and packer ( thank you nintendo tetris, and mom said it was a waste of time, pffft!!!). i also worry about always transporting them around and damaging them. but you guys have great ideas

I keep almost everything overhead on one side of the garage. I intentionally constructed the larger tombstones as hollow storage space for the smaller ones. Some of the tombstones are fairly tall, yet I am able to keep them all in a space about fifteen feet by three feet by three feet. My friends are amazed at the packing skill, but my real motivation is that I like to be able to use my garage, so it is a compromise.

Osenator...that's quite enough! I don't want to see your Lurching Vampire or other props anymore! Ha ha... ;)

Well, I store my stuff mostly in the attic, but the large figures stay in the cool basement. I do keep the masks in an easy access closet so they won't melt in the attic, and the fog machines stay in my closet!

Just added a little storage to the shed for all my torches/bamboo/PVC

Added one of these to our "craft room" for all the crafty and/or makeup stuff. (though it's mostly full since this pic was taken.

You can see the wall behind this thing. All those totes are filled with Halloween. About 6 of them are full of skulls, the rest have assorted things, all labeled. My extension chords off to the wall on the right. Bob hanging out in the background there as well.

I used my tax return to buy a 2nd storage building thats 10X14ft in addition to the 10X12ft building I already have. Both of them are full... In total, I have 2 and a 1/2 buildings full to props that I store it all in.

With the new building, things are a little more organized, but still difficult to access. So sfter last year, I finally had enough dealing with all the storage issues and box stacking. I have come to the realization that things I am not using must go... and I say that very carefully... and painfully... I have been selling those items to people who are looking for them and will be able to use them.

We have a shed built across the back of our 2 car-garage that's about 6 feet deep. One half of it has a shelf, so my toe-pincher filled with random smaller stuff is on the bottom with some blowmolds & the smaller tombstones are on the top shelf with a couple WIP Christmas props and the window unit air conditioners. The bigger stones are in the other half - leaning against the shelves. Unfortunately, the hubby insists on me leaving room for the ladder / patio table & chairs / etc.

My cemetery fence is in the shed out back with the lawn mower & the people props are all standing around in the corner of the garage (which has never seen a car) and I noticed that hubby blocked them in with a half-build groundbreaker coffin....Guess he didn't like the company! Oh and the tubs are stacked neatly along the garage wall.

Right now, almost everything is stored in the rafters of our two-car garage, in totes. The two large gravestones we have are in the garden shed out back. We have plans to make the garden shed bigger and add a second one to the opposite back corner of the yard, but it all comes down to $$$.
Why is it we can build/decorate a haunt for pennies, but storage is so bloody expensive?
