Isn't it great? My only pet peeve, and maybe you had a different experience, was that the wait time is Lonnggggg, even though they make you reserve a time. We had a 9:eek:o reservation, and didnt get on till 10:30. I wouldn't have minded so much if it wasn't so cold that night. I wonder if they do that so you will visit the concession stands more/
Oh, the wait was long when we went to. I plan on getting tickets for the earlier ride (7 pm or 7:30 pm) which would mean that we would finally get on the hayride at 8/8:30 pm at the earliest.

It rained earlier that day and they put some hay down where we had to line up because it was very muddy.

Did you get your tickets ahead of time, or did you get them there? They sell out, but for some reason I saw people lining up for tickets on the day.

You're right about the atmosphere there - even the autumn smell in the air mixed with the smell of cider and caramel apples adds to it. It's great.

I loved the haunted corn maze. My husband ran away from me at one point and the ghouls surrounded me.

This isnt so much a halloween attraction, but If you live near rye, new york, I suggest taking a trip to playland and riding both Zombie Castle and the Flying Witch. Zombie castle has a TON of distortions animatronics, as well as some cool special effects. The park has a lot of other cool things to do.

Do you guys like going first into those things? I always like to have someone in front of me and behind me.

Oh, those chainsaws are so scary. They sound so real! :)

Did you ever go into one of those rooms that has a psychedelic wall covering on it only to find out that there are people all covered in that same covering, so you're not sure where they are?
I don't mind going first but I hate being last! I always feel like someone is behind me, and in the GOOD haunted houses there sometimes is... I think one of the scariest "gimmicks" for a haunted house (and not nearly used enough) is to just have some monster/dead guy/whatever following quietly behind you. I've been to a few that have done this but not many.

I went to a haunted trail event last year and they had one room where they had a wall covered in polka-dotted black fabric, and then 2 people jump out of it (wearing the same fabric) not bad...

I think the best haunted house I've been to was probably Dream Reapers in Melrose Park IL. I love how they use the "Sinister Scents". I* think* that was the haunted house where the last time I went, they stopped us halfway through and made all the girls go on alone (which was more fun) and then I found out from the guy I'd gone in with that after they made the girls go on one by one they let all the guys go as a group, heh (I told him it was because they knew the guys would be too scared.) That was pretty cool.

I also really liked the old Silo X that used to be in the Chicago area as well...but they're long gone :( I only went once though, and I think it was their last or next-to-last year.

I don't find things in haunted houses that I could use because I don't really have the money for most of the props in haunted houses, but I often find things I recognize from Nightmare Factory or other prop websites! It's funny to be walking with my sister/friends through a haunted house, a light comes on and suddenly a body is writhing in an electric chair and I exclaim "Hey! I saw that on Nightmare Factory! Wow, it looks awesome in person..." :D

That haunted corn maze at the Headless Horseman Hayride has mutant scarecrows that quietly follow you. Really freaky because it's so dark out there to begin with, though there is a sliver of moonlight that casts over the cornfields.

Some of their haunted houses have it too, but they follow you with knives, chainsaws, etc. It's a lot of fun!

I always call ahead and make my reservation, but you still have to wait in lien when you get there for the actual ticket.

Maddmatt911: The Rye in Westchester? Im not far from there at all..is this like a walk through deal?

Field Of Screams. It's in PA. I only went there once about 4 years ago, but it was a blast. I don't think they had lots of money or fancy equipment, but the atmosphere couldn't be beat. They had 3 events you could pay to get into or for a cheaper price do all 3. I loved the hayride. Plus they have a stage with live music and a big screen that plays bits of horror movies. I hear it's even better now. I want to go back this year, but might not be until the next.

Crawling over a see-through floor with a Zombie underneath trying to get you....

A few months ago I was given two huge sheets of Bullet-proof glass from a Contractor doing a renovation at the International Airport down here. I've got them sitting in a rack, they measure 5' x 9' and it takes four guys to lift one sheet. I've been wondering, "What am I gonna do with this stuff?" Sometimes Jupiter aligns with Mars, and you have an AWESOME Hallowe'en Prop.

If you do this i'm telling you, you won't be disapointed. Just have him play dead and then bam, you'll scare so many people you might even want to get extra insurance for that day:)

So far, the two best things I've been to are:

Statesville Haunted Prison- THIS HAUNTED HOUSE LITERALLY DRAINS YOU OF ALL YOUR ENERGY! When you walk out of these haunted houses (two for the cost of one) you literally just want to fall over and pass out! I actually fell asleep on the car ride home! By far the best hanuted houses to this day! (my opinion)

Sonny Acre's Farm- I absolutly adore this farm! It's unbelievable! They have a Haunted house thats actually pretty good, Three costume/prop halloween shops, 1 country store where you can buy food, a great selection of out door food (their roasted corn is the ****e!), a spook house, a chocolate store, hayrides, and haunted hayrides during october...and MUCH more. I absolutly Love this place...I will always go! Their Haunted hayride is REALLY well done and it will remain a favorite of mine. There is just so much to do and see!

These two are by far my favorite places to attend during october and they will remain my two favorite places. ^-^ been ging to these places for the past 2-3 years i believe. I adore them.

Waiting in line to see the haunted house can be a big problem, for everybody, owner included.
Another haunt owner says he always misses most of October , as far as being able to do the fun stuff because he spends most of every night making frantic phone calls trying to flesh-out his actor group with real people.
I try to tell everyone to get reservations to my place, The Ravens Grin, Mount Carroll, Ill. Send me a check a week in advance, and then just show up on-time.
I avoid doing the on-line ticket thing because I don't want to have my place be an impulse decision which will them later require refunds and phone calls and any possibility of negativity concerning the experience here.
I am open almost every night of the entire year! Come here any other time and get right in (usually)
October is the time of the year during which some problem customers appear because they really don't want to be here, they were drug here by their friends.
If you were to arrive at my door tonight I would be doing your entire tour of the house, investing 60 to 90 minutes of myself in entertaining you , come here most busy Oct. nights and you will see me for the first room for maybe ten minutes.
I have been leading tours through here for...18 1/2 years now? Owned the house for 20 years, open almost every night..that's a LONG "Season", now isn't it? See: hauntedravensgrin.com
I'm still having fun!

I've wanted to go to your place forever, but I've never been able to manage it :/ (read:talk someone into driving out there since I don't drive ;) ) I think it is just far enough that I'd have to stay overnight somewhere to swing it... I'm hopefully going to talk a friend into heading out some time for a weekend trip, or maybe my dad...

Statesville haunted prison is just basically a maze through the halls of a prison. They have a psyciatric ward, prison cells, clown room, and I believe they have cadaver part of it if I remember correctly. It's not really going through individual cells, its more walking past them. It's like the jail mates broke out and are causing chaos. It's pretty morbid and disturbing. Kinda hard to explain though. xD

Check the site, Im not to sure. Maybe it explains it better. ^-^

OMG, that is so scary! If I see cells with open doors, just thinking that the prisoners are out there would freak me out.

The best haunt that I've been to is the Haunted Firehouse in Bayville,NY. It' s their main fundraiser and they do a great show! My friends and I have gone for many years and it's different every year. Anyone who lives on Long Island should give it a try!
