Update: Here's some video of the completed pirate cave. I used the camcorder's light, which kind of ruins most of the lighting effects in the cave, but at least you can see the props.

The video is a little rough, but the cave is almost done.

Hi. It's in the garage. I'll shoot some film of it with the camera's light on so you can see it better. I build a frame out of wood, and then string cable along the base and along the top. The cable is run through eye lids, and then one side uses a turnbuckle tightener. I then run twine down and across the walls and ceiling. I then run more twine to make a curving effect. I then use paper they sell in large rolls at Home Depot/Lowe's in the painting department. I cut pieces of it, then wrinkle it, then staple it to the twine. Lowe's has reddish roles for around $10. You get a lot more paper for the same price you'd see at Home Depot, and you don't really notice the red. If you want to see what the build looked like, go to my profile and check out the photo album.

Wow!! That looks really good! I like the fact you made an entire environment in which to immerse your audience in the Pirate theme. That way there is no distraction of modern day items to break the audience's suspension of disbelief. Very well done... I think all you need now is a small mp3 player playing a continuous loop of dripping water echoing somewhere in the cave to complete the illusion. Where are you located in El Dorado Hills? I might have to drop by and have a peek at the finished product sometime!

Yar, there be pirates lurking in them caves! Great job!

Do you stiffen the paper at all, or just leave it as is? A stiffer textured surface can provide a bit more realism.

Definitely add some audio of dripping water in a cave. PM me if you need an audio file.

Another idea is to add strands of fishing line or monofilament from the ceiling to create the feeling as though you're walking through spider webs.
