Has anyone ever made a wagon wheel? I need one for a gypsy camp that I'm doing this year and can't seem to find one, so I thought I might build one instead. Can some point me in the right direction? Thank you!

It's not a wagon wheel, but my pirate's ship wheel would be of similar construction. Maybe my tutorial might at least point you in the right direction.
You could use dowels instead of railing posts, but the construction process would be similar. Lots ofpics on the 'net to give you some idea as to how it should look, and you can make it to any size you need.

Without any other constraints (like it has to support 1500 lb wagon, etc).
I would use plywood, cut out wheel, spokes & hub as 1 piece, could make two 4 ft diameter wheels from one 4' x 8' sheet.
Then take dowel rod about the diameter of a spoke and cut each in two longways on a table saw (or can cut to spoke length first).
The cut the split dowels the length you need for the spokes, taper the ends if you wish.
Attach to the plywood spokes, to make the visible side of the spokes appear round If you want round spokes.
You can cut another ring w/o hub & spokes for just the outer part of the wheel if you want that to appear thicker.
You can paint on steel bands, or use trim strips if you prefer.
My 1/50 USD

I was in Garden Ridge this past week and they had wagon wheels for sell there. Do not remember the prices (maybe around $30) or if you have one near you but they had the small front wheel and the large back wheel.

Thank you to everyone for your ideas. I'll have to look around some more (maybe I can find one at the local barn sales) and whip up something.
