Dorm Room Decorations

Hi Everyone !

I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum. But I had a question and I was hoping to get some ideas! For Halloween/Fall I will be living in a dorm room since I go to college. However, I will be in a single (no roommates) and can decorate how I like. But as most know/can guess, there isn't much room. Does anyone have some ideas or suggestions on how I should decorate? Maybe some links to things you may think would look nice? Last year I taped some leaves to the doors, put caution tape on the cupboards, hung a row of skeletons over the lights on top of bathroom mirror, and put those cling-on stickers on the window.

It is just hard because the wall paint the school uses is super cheap that even normal tape will rip the paint off! So I have to be careful. And we aren't supposed to use push pins, but I do for a few things ;P

Really any and all ideas will be helpful! Feel free to send some ideas and pictures if you have any!!

Thanks so much
-Alyssa

Do those command strips/hooks work okay on the walls without damaging the paint? What kind of surface does your ceiling have? Is there anyway you could use push pins on the ceiling without the holes showing after? Or could you use command strips/hooks on it?

If there is some way of hanging stuff from your ceiling, you could hang bats, or ghosts, or flying witches or, pumpkins, or spiders, or all of the above from your ceiling. If the command strips/hooks work on the walls, you could hang creepy portraits, or masks, or hang some creepy cloth, or creepy lace.

Hopefully these are okay! They are from my room last year, but it should basically be the same (I move in next month). Its a somewhat small area. I like the idea of hanging things from the ceiling though!! I will probably do that :)
Command hooks are a bit better than tape, but I have honestly had both rip off paint at some point lol. I am okay with doing some! I also don't mind using some push pins, I just don't want to use tons and tons :)
One of the walls was kind of like concrete? You can see it in one of the pictures. However , I don't know if I will have that surface again next year because for that room I was at a corner.

Thanks so much!

OK, not sure where you are located (in the US?) but I have some ideas and tried to stick to Amazon so it's free shipping and you can shop from the comfort of your laptop. I was a struggling student once too!

To me your flat surfaces are perfect: the door to your room, the bathroom door, the mirror, your cabinet, your frig.

For you mirror these bat clings are small so they shouldn't be in the way but should pack a punch: https://www.amazon.com/Martha-Stewa...ref=sr_1_1?keywords=halloween+mirror+clings&qid=1563636640&s=home-garden&sr=1-1

There are also these door covers that may work for your doors: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=halloween+door+cover&i=garden&crid=TYHDMEQFFKTX&sprefix=halloween+door,garden,213&ref=nb_sb_ss_i_1_14

For your frig there are all kinds of frig magnets. Again, I gravitate toward the bats on a white frig, but there are all kind of options: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=halloween+refrigerator&i=garden&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

or you can use regular magnets to attach something like this to your frig: https://www.amazon.com/Beistle-0042...c/dp/B07GCHF6Q7/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=beistle&qid=1563637071&s=home-garden&sr=1-4

Something like this may work on your cabinets: https://www.amazon.com/Amscan-Hallo...SR2TUM/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=halloween+clings&qid=1563637168&s=home-garden&sr=1-8

For hanging stuff from the ceiling a co-worker used to do floating witch hats over her cubicle. Maybe over your bed where they won't get in your way? It was really cute: https://www.polkadotchair.com/floating-witch-hat-luminaries/

I would put a cute Halloween throw pillow on your bed. This one is super cute and cheap from Amazon. You can get the insert for next to nothing at your nearby Michaels or Joann: https://www.amazon.com/Halloween-Ho...ef=sr_1_19?keywords=halloween+pillow+cases&qid=1563637372&s=home-garden&sr=1-19

Again, for your bed a throw would be great. This one is fall themed so you can leave it on all season: https://www.amazon.com/Holiday-Than...spa?keywords=halloween+blanket&qid=1563637571&s=home-garden&sr=1-56-spons&psc=1

For your kitchen, a cute Halloween kitchen towel would work, too. This set is really cute and come with a pot holder, too. Hang the pot holder from the side of your fridge with a hook magnet: https://www.amazon.com/Haloween-Holiday-Perfect-Kitchen-Baking-Jack/dp/B076DYSX7G/ref=sr_1_36?crid=3JNJ96J6AUKMS&keywords=halloween+kitchen+towels&qid=1563637866&s=home-garden&sprefix=halloween+kitchen+,garden,206&sr=1-36

I hope this helps. Have fun with it!!!

@Famous Pumpkin wow thank you sooo much!! So many ideas and links, I really appreciate it! I just glanced at them and I love a lot. I definitely think I will try those witch hats, and some of the magnets. The bats are a great idea plus super affordable.

I will post updates when it gets closer and of course post some photos of how it all turns out!

I really appreciate you looking into it for me and giving so many great ideas!

For the space above your kitchen cabinets, you could put some fake pumpkins and some small skeletons or some rats or crows. If you have a local Dollar Tree, they usually get in some of those foam pumpkins, rubber rats and small crows. Here is a link to the pumpkins from Dollar Tree:

For the front of what I assume is your closet you could hang something like this guy:

Or maybe you could put something like these on some of your cabinets:

You could maybe put a few of these all around on the walls or even the ceiling:
https://www.amazon.com/vanow-Hallow...2c7-5ed0d4c85b07&pf_rd_r=ACV158T2HGRVM0W6QXXJ&psc=1&refRID=ACV158T2HGRVM0W6QXXJ

Maybe you could put these on the floor over in your kitchen/bathroom area:

Good luck and have fun decorating.

dorms have come a long way since my college days, lol.

usually for our party we decorate our kitchen with a lot of "traditional" halloween items--a line of pumpkins on a string, orange and black paper lanterns, the old paper skeletons with the hinged joints, that sort of thing. a lot of simple paper products, basically. you can get a lot of atmosphere without much taping or pinning with stuff like that. you could also do plastic pumpkins, those would take up minimal space and not have to be something to hang.

overall i like fairly old-school decorations, and i think a lot of that sort of thing would be well suited for a dorm room.
