Its super easy to get hooked on D56. I loved it and still love it, but its just gotten soo expensive. There is really nothing they had this year that was worth 150 bucks. Especially something that has no movement or sounds. I have almost every D56 piece for the first 3 or 4years they made it Im only missing a few accessories. I found Lemax while looking for added people at a cheaper price.

 

Yup! huge dept56 Halloween fan..It is very addicting...lol!

Terrific photos..Actually one of my favorite pieces is one of the new additions for this year. The Rickety Railroad Station has me very impressed. What surprised me was that it is not mentioned anywhere that this features sound. When started, there are two different lights that flicker on and off, and voices and sounds that last for a few minutes, and then repeat...all with ghostly laughter, train sounds, and a conductor calling for tickets...

 

They have some very cool looking pieces but I can't even bring myself to pay full price for the Lemax stuff! At twice the retail price I can't even think about starting a Dept 56 collection.

 

Yes, it is a very cool piece....I contemplated about it...but decided to hold off...I'm bursting with buildings and accessories right now...and frankly I don't think I have any more space...lol

 

I love both dept.56 and the Lemax Spookytown! Bought only Spookytown last year like Frankenstein's lab, The Pillager,Cursed Tomb, Blackbeard's Tatoos. This year got the Deadman's Tower and the Octo-Squeeze which has been recalled, but mine works LOL But I am getting suckered into Dept.56 Grimsly Manor, Rickety Haunted Station . To me much more awesome looking than Lemax! Lemax paint job this year doesn't look all that great!

 

I try to look for reasonable/sale deals with the Dept.56. I figure its great quality stuff that I'll get to enjoy for years to come. So its worth it to me. But Spookytown does make some quality items, it just seems to vary.

 

I also try to purchase my dept56 items on sale, I think I've only paid full price for 4 buildings...which isn't bad, since I do have a large collection..

 

Rickety Railroad Haunted Station has a spooky sound track and lightening effect! Very intricate detail! I've heard the Phantom Station is a cool piece though. But I fell in love with the Dept.56 one.

 

i love dept 56 but wow they are expensive , i dont collect the village pieces i would love too but i would be broke wittin 5 min knowng myself if i started getting those , it as always been a dream of mine to have a uge village set up.....but i have to choose if the budget goes to props or that so have alot of fun with props....

i do have a few halloween decoration pieces from them like the lady and child bust , the queen mummy cider server , the fearnology jar , i have 2 of their lab jars that lights up too and i just got their new witch arm candelabra . ...their stuff are addictive .....

 

Yes, it is quite addictive...lol!

I really love their non-village products too. I sure would love to have the Queen Mummy Cider Server...that is such a cool piece!

I just started noticing dept56 this year. I did post a link to some of there stuff in a thread (should be back 2 or 3 pages in the general section) but it's way to over priced imo. I can't even bring myself buying lemax with a coupon. But thanks a bunch for sharing.:0)

 

Home Goods has some of the classic monster stuff (ceramic figures, I believe posed in scenes from the movies) from Dept 56. I think they were about $12 each. They must be older because I can't find them on the website.

 

i love dept 56 stuff, so cool, so detailed, but WAY to expensive an some of them have no movement at all. i def am tempted to buy the deep sea museum i love that piece, but i also think that for the price of one dept 56 hosue i can get 2 michaels houses or practically every accessory an figure in one shot from michaels lol.

 

They do have neat Peanuts collection stuff. Below's link that show it's wayyyy to overpriced. Even for the rich and the fame.

I have mostly Spookytown, but two of my favorite pieces are Dept 56. I have the movie theatre of the village pieces, and another little figurine of a big-eyed witch holding a little umbrella, I love her, she looks like a Tim Burton character.

 

WOW Gromit!! I'm sooo jealous. I love D56, but they are a little too expensive. I just bought my first Halloween piece this Spring and plan to buy more. I'll probably end up mixing Lemax in with it. I try to get D56 pieces when they are on sale.

Funny. I just realized my avatar is all D56. I got the haunted house a couple of years ago when D56 was doing home parties (they don't do it anymore) and my mom bought me the Halloween Snowbabies.

 

Well, that's how I started off....little by little....I bought several items 50%off...so just look for sales...good luck! BTW...totally dig your avatar!

Well here is a few pictures of my village from 2005 and 06 I didnt get a chance to do one last year since we didnt have the space for it. Luckily we bought a new house and have a whole room I can use . I have to reconfigure from the past into a 12x12 room in a U shape since now i have a whole room instead of half of one

Hey Turtle2778, Yes, I am a member of DTL...good to see you here.......
All of my trees are from dept56....I used Halloween trees, Autumn trees, and Jack Pines in my display....even though Jack Pines...are considered "Christmas," I like using them for Halloween...it gives a different look and they're nice fillers..

 

OMG I cant believe I found this thread. I thought I was the only one here into Dept 56. I LOVE IT!!! I know most here love Lemax but I just cant help it I am a Dept 56 girl. Anyway Turtle awesome display girl. I have almost every piece you have but not nearly as much as you. Love it! Every one here has such great displays. I am hoping to get the new train this year and the station with conductor. Maybe I can post pics in October. So So happy to see Im not alone here in the Deptartment 56 fan club
