Hello all, yes, I subscribe to Martha Stewart Living. Back off, Martha actually is one of the few 'mainstream' people that treat Halloween like a celebration. She has slacked off lately, but with her increasing age- she is 71!- the poor economy, etc, perhaps her empire isn't investing in Halloween as much as we would like.

Anyway, I got her October issue last night, and it is not as prop intensive as most of us would like...but it is still worth thumbing thru.

She's got some recipes, and her Halloween party spread centers on a creepy circus/carnival done in red and black. it is targeted for kids, but good fun for most ages.

At least glance thru in the checkout line!

Here is a link to her website with the pics!

Some good stuff!

It's not about not liking Martha, it's that I do like her that's the problem. She put out a few years worth of amazing Halloween specials with awesome ideas. Every year we've come to expect some new incredible ideas that haven't been done to death, but now for the past 3 years, it's been a bummer. Nothing but old, re--runs.

Thanks for posting Hollow. I saw this issue and I am always tempted to get Halloween mags! It did look great, and I would have got it... BUT... I have to be honest, every year I would buy all the Halloween mags and recipe books and just DEVOUR them, if you KWIM. But this year, as I look at them, I think "OH yeah, I have that (or similar) pinned on my Halloween Pinterest board!" It leaves me wondering, with a site like Pinterest, where you can find and store ANYTHING for ANY occasion, are specialty mags done for? Dunno, but I won't spend money if I can get something for free. I do though, still absolutely love a magazine in hand. I love paper books too, not online books/readers/etc.. Am I alone in these thoughts??

Thanks Hollow. I personally was hoping there would be something in the October issue and WILL buy it. I also prefer having this type of information in hand as opposed to viewing it on or printing it from the internet.

For the last two weeks, I've been looking at magazines that feature Halloween ideas, but none come even close to comparison with Martha Stewart's past Halloween issues. After digging through Halloween arts and crafts books at the bookstore, I finally settled on this one, but I like whimsical, and it likely won't appeal to all here.

I assembled the needed supplies, even bought a Dremel, Dremel Chuck, and drill bits today so I can drill holes! The only problem I'm having is finding Creative Paperclay locally, a product used in almost all of the book's projects.

So far I've learned that I can order it online for local pick up at Kmart, that Michaels sometimes has it, and that my local art store does carry it but is temporarily out of stock. For now, I bought a similar cellulose based clay product at Michael's and ordered Creative Paperclay online. Should be here in a few days.

Today, I began work on one of the projects. So far so good... If it turns out well, I'll post pictures here on the forum!

Heading out the door to find an October issue of Martha Stewart Living...

I haven't seen the Martha Stewart Oct issue yet, I just bought 2 of her backissues off ebay for $8 shipped (2005 and 2008). I will get this year's too if it has Halloween items in it. The trick is to find it somewhere near here.

I did get Women's Day and Better Homes and Gardens Halloween specials this year and a Pilsbury mini book with some great recipees in it I want to try to make.

People underestimate Martha & her awareness of her "Martha-ness.". She has a great sense of humour. I remember her doing shots & drinking 40s with Conan on his show on NBC & it was hilarious. She "gets" being "Martha Stewart" & just goes with it.

Yes she does I still love her guest spot with miss piggy from the Muppets when miss Piggy made fun of her for 5 mins straight for saying dragais. Thoses little silver things you put on cookies and cupcakes.

I swear I have never laughed so hard in my life. Martha was barely keeping a straight face herself.

After seeing the thread here last night, picked up the October issue this a.m. Especially liked the Carnival section since I will be doing a carnival theme next year God willing if our yard is finished and the weather permits a lot of props to be set up outdoors.

I still buy magazines. Have a great tablet to use but still appreciate all the fabulous things about a printed glossy magazine. While I wish Martha didn't repeat her articles or reprint a past issue for her holiday edition (at least couldn't MSL reprint a somewhat older goodie than the one they chose this year?), I do look forward to her October issue.

Wow, can't believe she's 71. Hope I have half the creative energy she does when I'm 60 or 65.

Hey I'm still hoping there's a halloween special on TV in the works for this year. I enjoyed last years. Anyone know? I don't get the chance to watch her show on whatever channel it is on now. Use to catch it when it was on CBS. Now it's kind of out of sight out of mind I guess. I know she probably has her hands full with Macy's suing her company over the product lines she is doing over at JCP. Between lawyers, courts and prison I guess it would take a lot out of you and maybe that's in part why she didn't dedicate as much time lately to what I know to be her favorite holiday. If anyone catches her show on cable is she still doing a Month Of Halloween projects (starting soon if she does)? If so I'll probably try to watch them or Tivo them.

Looking through the October issue I still feel like she brings a wonderful classy look to the halloween projects she does and that still sets her apart from many of the other magazines. Liked her tip on using striped straws slipped over candy apple sticks to give them a carnival look.

I'll be on the lookout for the October issue! I must admit I am a fan of Martha Stewart, especially her Halloween-themed magazines and TV shows. Her show on Hallmark was cancelled earlier this year and the shows airing over the summer were all repeats. And it looks like starting this week even the repeats will no longer be aired. She will have a new show premiering in October on PBS but it sounds like that show will focus mostly on cooking. I've always loved her Halloween specials in past years, but I haven't heard of a Halloween special for this year (and I've been checking her website).

hollow, you're not alone. I also subscribe to MSL, and I find her to be a great inspiration, especially during Halloween. In fact, that's what got me into MSL, her amazing past Halloween issues and ideas! And as it was already mentioned upthread, I respect how self-aware she is, and how she does not take herself seriously.

I really liked the carnival idea as well as those salted caramel apples(I'd have to cut waaaay down on the recipe, but the idea of salty and sweet is just too good to pass up as a treat) I'm also one of those people that refuse to get an e-reader  It took me ages to convert to CDs!! and I don't know what it is about books, but I just love the feel of them. So, until tangible books are done away with, I will continue to have/collect magazines and books.

You know the carnival section also had something about making creepy peanuts. I know there are kids with peanut allergies so you have to be careful who you serve those to, but here at home we don't have a problem with them and I would consider whipping up a batch of these. Love roasted peanuts in the shell. I wonder if your fingers would get colored black as well. Guess you could say you had the black plauge. I would suppose you could use something other than peanuts although drawing a blank right now on what.
