I had been shopping around for a fake chainsaw for our homehaunt this year and hadn't been impressed with any I had seen. They all looked like toys, even from a distance, and what little sound they produced sounded nothing at all like a chainsaw. Then in a review, I read about a "deluxe animated chainsaw with sound" for around $40. I found a couple of videos of the thing in action and liked it enough to go ahead and order one. I got it from FrightCatalog.com along with a clown mask w/wig and a clown costume.
I LOVE IT!
I'm going to have to replace the batteries before Halloween because I can't stop playing with it! It looks real, it sounds real, and the (rubber) chain moves! There is a simple on/off button under the handle. The sound is loud enough, and not just Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. It is a recording of someone revving and running a real chainsaw, much like an actor would do with a real one. The rubber chain moves at about an inch or two per second - just enough to appear to be moving fast (I forget what that effect is called, but it is the same effect that makes a car tire look like it is turning slowly backward when it is racing forward).
Anyway, I rate it 9 out of 10. The 1 missing point is due to feature/safety stickers on the side of the "blade" and "motor" that defy peeling and required scraping.
Also, ordering from FrightCatalog.com was completely painless. I will order from them again (today, in fact).
