Hello, I am new here and I thought this would be a great place to share a project I am working on.
We recently bought a house last year and slowly starting to make "The Nightmare Before Christmas House" in our area. Last year was alright, we have the 12' Jack Skellington, a Zero, we built a dog house for Zero, and a 10' Oogie Boogie on the roof.
This year we decided to go a little harder. I am designing the clock from TNBC. It uses stepper motors to control the arms on the clock, to make them spin in opposite directions at a higher RPM than usual. It also uses a screen that auto-updates the countdown to Halloween. I am 3D printing the gears and gearbox now, and have most of everything except for the screen on order.
I'll post updates on the clock as I progress.
Some challenges:
Here's some images of the clock from the movie, as well as some design images. Should be a fun project!

Some challenges:
- 1) I want to use a sheet of clear plexiglass for the clock face - at 30" this gets quite expensive. I'd need to figure out how to make it white, but allow lights to shine through the face to backlight it.
- How to attach LED lights and diffuse them to give an even glow
- OR Just use a 30" circle-cut of plywood, paint it and just light it around the edges..
