I have a clown jack in the box, but it doesn't pop out of the box. What do I rig up to make him pop up and lower back down? Foot pad activated would be nice too. Thanks.

You have quite a few options, depending on how much range you need for the motion. If you take a look at our "Jack (in a box)" jumping rat, he gets a pretty good jump, just not very high. Video included for your education and entertainment:

Forgive my femininity, but an air cylinder? Is that all I buy? Then just hook it up to an air compressor? Pretend you're talking to a 12 year old. Lol. 
No reason an air cylinder wouldn't do the trick (clearly, it does). I guess it depends how much you want to put into this project. I have tended to shy away from air cylinders. Although they offer significant advantages in throw length and power (in most cases), I find those are outweighed by the cost and noise. Compressers, valves... not cheap. Although they would last pretty much forever and work very reliably. My two cents' worth.
Ok. Well I am not the slightest bit mechanically inclined so can I just use the jumping spider mechanism maybe?
