Working on Halloween?

Kind of, at least at night...My band is playing a Halloween party at a club. I really prefer not to play on Halloween night, but it is a party. During the day probably not, unless I have some real estate business. Anyone else?

I have to work during the day because Friday is my busy day, I'm going to try to duck out by 3:00.
The only time I worked on Halloween was when we lived in a basement apartment & had zero ToTers & no where to decorate. That was for about 3-4 years in the 90s. Before that I never worked on Halloween & since we bought the house (closed on it on Halloween 9 years ago) I haven't worked on a Halloween ever.
Office job, M-F, 8-5. But I'll be in costume! We are doing trick or treating at work, a decorating contest and a caramel apple station. It should help the day go by fast!

Work on Halloween? Heck that's blasphemy....

In the last 15 years I've worked on every holiday BUT Halloween.....

PTO time ...

Necessary evil...

Which makes it PERFECT for Halloween.
SpookyBlackKat, I love to hear about offices allowing costumes on Halloween. I was working in an office setting last year and each team dressed as a group and decorated. I was mad that they voted on the day I was off (and three others on the team). The ones there voted for us to be the Duck Dynasty family. The four of us could have made a major difference in this lame theme. But, it was fun. The rest of the building went all out. One team did Wizard of Oz and had all the major actors and even did a yellowbrick road from the front door all the way to their section. Other themes that day included: witches, monsters, zombies, vampires, etc.

I have always been working in schools before last year and we always dressed up. I substitute now and the district where I work has a staff development day on the 31st.

This week I have subbed for a teacher who teaches floral design all day and they were decorating empty cans by painting Halloween things on them. Today they added the florist foam and wooden skewers and candy bars for Candy Bouquets. They will add the finishing touches on Monday. Then the rest of the week they are decorating pumpkins with paint. I will be there all next week, too. Fun classes.

I do not work Halloween. I started a new job in June and told them very early on that I DON'T work Halloween, and they were okay with that. I get paid holidays with this job too, so she asked if I just wanted to switch Labor Day with Halloween and I said that would be totally fine since I don't care if I work Labor Day or not.

In the end, she said I only had to work half day for Labor Day and still get paid for a full day AND now I'm going to get paid to work on Halloween! Best year ever, hahaha.

I do tell them that it is basically a religious holiday for me and she took me seriously as I would expect.
I am probably working, but I could take it off if I wanted to. I'm just part time, and non-essential, so they wouldn't miss me.

Our office is only open till 11:30 on Fridays though, so it's more a question do I need the money or not. I'm off for most of November, now that my son has to have another surgery.
I'm one of those who will work every holiday BUT Halloween! My wife had to work last year but now I'm working and also let them know from the beginning that I don't work on Halloween.
I'll be teaching in the morning which will be packed with Halloween standard based activities. I am getting a sub for the afternoon. This is actually an entire week of Halloween activities. Our writing focus is writing instructions so my 2nd graders are writing things like how to make a: costume, witch's brew, haunted house, and how to TOT. Reader's Workshop is all about Facts and Opinion and we are sorting facts about things like bats and Halloween. Both of the other classes have kids who aren't allowed to celebrate so thank goodness I don't have them because I probably wouldn't be allowed to do those lessons which would be a bummer for the rest of the class.
I always feel sad for the people who have to work at Spirit Halloween on Halloween.

Heck! Maybe they don't even care! lol

Maybe it's just me. But I assume to work there you have to be somewhat into Halloween and probably would rather be elsewhere ON Halloween.

Again, maybe it's just me making assumptions. Or rather, how I would feel if I had to work on Halloween in a Halloween store! : /

:( :(

Ohhh... I would be so bitter. lol

You could teach those kids tolerance of other's differences. A very valuable life lesson!
My wife's employer loves to torture us I guess because they always have her working until 7:00 or 7:30 on Halloween, so I get everything set up and then have to drive over to get her just as the ToTs are showing up. This year they're giving us some mercy because she's off at 2:00 for a change.
I haven't worked on Hallowe'en for over 12 yrs, this year will be no different! My house is decorated on the inside but I put all my yard haunt out on Hallowe'en and take it all down that night, the only thing anyone see's the next day is about 13 pumpkins on the front porch and yard full of leaves...lol

Being retired now I do not work on Halloween but when I was younger I worked during the day on Halloween all the time. Lil GHouliette works on Halloween now but she has a nice employer who lets her decorate the office and this year told her to plan a Halloween picnic for the afternoon. They even wear costumes at her office. This year I made her a Rockford Peach baseball uniform, it turned out great.
No chance, no way, no how, I'm off for the week, always! If some one at work challenges me, it will be a duel to the death..just kidding. .no, I'm not
In the years I've been working I've never worked Halloween. This year I have off Wed to Mon. 2 days left till Halloween starts! I love this time of year.

I don't work Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday or Christmas Eve/day
Oh, I guess I DID work Halloween for the two years I worked in the costume shop, but it didn't really feel like work and I was surrounded by Halloween stuff and we still partied of course. One year our boss rented out a giant Hummer limo for us to go out downtown, it was amazing.
I was actually scheduled for a closing shift on Halloween - 6:15 p.m. to 2:45 a.m. - which is the night. I had requested the night off, but they scheduled me anyway. Fortunately, I found somebody who needed hours, so I gave my shift to her. Yay! For one thing, I've put far too much time, energy and cash into this year's version of "Rose's Haunted Graveyard" to blow it off by working. Secondly, though, working Halloween night at Universal Studios would be really unpleasant. I pilot one of the yachts that takes hotel guests from the parks to the resorts. As Halloween approaches, the Halloween Horror Nights crowds have grown progressively more drunken, aggressive and obnoxious. Last night Horror Nights hit capacity. Express passes were sold out by 8 and people were turned away at the gates. Tired of the two and three hour-long wait times for the mazes and the shoulder-to-shoulder scare zones so dense with guests it was hard to even find a scareactor, a lot of the guests ended up boozing in CityWalk, so by the time they came down to the dock to board a boat they were hammered out of their minds. And this was the Saturday before Halloween. So you can imagine my delight at not having to work the actual night.

If our shift is scheduled to work, I always find someone to trade with. In 6 years, I've had to find trades for 2 Halloweens. Most of my co-workers, who don't have small children, are willing to trade work days.
