I dont think has been mentioned here yet, but another option is a programmable controller like the Picovolt from Frightprops. Yes, more expensive, $50, but you can do more fun things with it, speed control and direction control. I used one for my cotton candy stirring clown. It stirred in one direction for about 15 seconds, stopped for a bit, then stirred in the other direction for about 15 seconds. The video here didnt catch the stop and direction change, but you get the idea.
