[Oak Lane Cemetery]

As many of you know, we got hit bad by the remains of Hurricane Michael last week. The witch hut was completely demolished and many of the props inside were damaged, the witch got toppled, but due to her mostly wire construction she was undamaged. Had three tombstones broken and most others chipped by wind driven debris or rough handling during the scramble to get them taken in. The spider tree beside the arch was toppled and all the webs screwed up and the spiders tangled hopelessly. Also broke one window board while removing them ahead of the storm. I was at work when it happened and helpless to do anything but bark instructions over the phone and wait to hear how bad it was. Been slowly repairing and rebuilding and we are almost back to full operation again.

That is terrible, but at least there is still time to salvage what you can and rebuild/rethink the overall setup. I'm so sorry that happened tho because I completely understand how frustrating it is to have to fix something you'd set up and thought looked great... I've had too many Halloweens ruined by storms/hurricane hits (Gulf Coast so hurricane/tropical storms are a very common thing in my area).

Good luck on the rebuild and I hope there are some things you can rig up quickly or otherwise work around if they aren't totally fixable in the time you've got left.

Wow, that video footage is scarier than any Halloween props! I'm so sorry that your display suffered so much damage. I'm glad you are able to repair or rebuild. Your props are so amazing and inspiring.

Man, that’s awful! Sorry to hear about the damage.. my biggest fear is a big wind storm. Hopefully you can get it back in shape without too much difficulty..

I am so sorry Oak. I feel bad about complaing about our weather now. We are supossed to get winds so bad in the next few days that out electric company Southern California Edison sent out warnings out possible controlled electic outages. They are going to possibly shut down areas to avoid fires, because fires are a huge problem here. I hope that you are able to repair everything and get it up for Halloween, Like I have said before mother nature is a real witch

Sorry to see that happen to your setup. Seems like every year someone on the East Coast gets hit by one weather event or another (wind, rain, snow). I do think there is some humor in thinking what it must be like to have seen your witch go flying by someones window...shades of Wizard of Oz?! One year at Christmas time we had strong winds and rain and one of my penguin displays got knocked over and his wing took off. Hubby walked neighborhood and found it surprisingly. Any luck retrieving any of your props? Hope this setup setback hasn’t ruined your spirit and sure hope you have mild weather from now thru Halloween.

LouNroxluv, wow hadn’t been paying attention to the weather news lately and had no idea Southern California was expecting such fierce weather. I know the Santa Ana’s can be very treacherous. So many bad fires down that way in the last few years in general. Stay safe.

Yea this year everything has been a bit extra. The fires are buring hotter, faster, more intensely, more unpredictable than ever before. Reserchers are trying to figure it out and only have theories, no real answers. I live very close to the mountains, they go up in flames every several years. It is something that is always on your mind around this time of year. The Holy fire in August was so close to my sister that they were evacuated for several days and were very very close to losing their home. Luckily her entire community was safe and they all had homes to return to. The only damage was a lot of people lost their fences, the fire men had knocked the down in order to fight the fires. Everyone was so grateful they did not care that the had no fences. One of my best friends son is part of Cal fires so he bounces around from fire to fire. It is scary...

We didn't have anything near like that last night but I had issues tonight. It's going to only take a few hours to fix them, thankfully!
