Sorry I haven't kept up lately, holiday preps and all you know.

It's still a work in progress, but I think you'll understand why I've been
incommunicado...
So here is the tutorial part.
Take an 8' tall maple tree trunk, one chain saw and remove all parts of trunk that are not
a Tiki. :p

Nice carving there DB!! But won't it kill the tree? I love it though!

The tree was already mostly dead. I believe when the previous homeowners had the drive paved the poor fellows roots were cut. He may spring back though as I didn't "girdle" the tree, so there is a possibility
that he may sprout a crown come next spring.

To girdle a tree one must cut the bark through the cambium layer all the way around the trunk. Since the trunk has cotninuous bark from base to top on roughly 60% of it's surface it may still sprout. It can still transfer nutrients.
