I'm just finishing my "Evil scientist" lab and am getting ready to move on to the skeletons I'll need. As this is the first year since contracting the Halloween bug I'm in the dark over the best source for skeletons. Michaels had theirs on sale for $48. I've seen them from ~$40 to $100+. What should I reasonable expect to pay for a decent quality one? Where does everyone buy theirs?
I'll be corpsing them and some will have movement. At a minimum, one will sit up from prone on a table and a couple will talk. I have the pneumatics and control figured out. I just don't know what's a good skelly.
If you're gong to corpse them Michaels might be you best bet. They have 40% and 50% coupons sometimes. If you want some to display without embellishing them there are medical supply places where you can buy 2nd, and 3rd quality skeletons and skulls cast in resin or plastic that are cast from molds of real skeletons. They can be a little more expensive, and since they are not 1st quality there might be teeth missing or mis colored plastic. https://www.amazon.com/Anatomical-R...476128739&sr=8-3&keywords=anatomical+skeleton
Most likely you are looking at $30-$40 if you buy them before halloween.
Home Depot normally has them them for $30. I am not a big fan of the Home Depot skeletons though. The heads are heavy as they contain batteries to light up the eyes and the neck does not move. I’m not sure when they normally set up their stores for halloween
Costco has decent skeletons. I think they normally go for $40. Some years the stores have them, some years they don’t. But in the past you could still get them on line. I think they normally put their Halloween stuff on line around the middle of August. The skeletons are posable.
Walgreens normally has them for $30 or $40. They are my favorite to work with. The elbow and knee joints have a ratcheting system which holds poses pretty good. I am not sure when they get them in the stores.
Micheals is the only one that I know has skeletons out right now. In the past they were listed as $80. But they quickly put them on sale or you can get coupons and should not have to pay more than $40 or so. I’ve never bought the Michaels skeletons so can’t give any feedback on the skeletons themselves.
The Michaels skeletons are similar in quality to the Home Depot skeletons, so between those two I would go Home Depot, they're cheaper even with the 40% off coupons from Michaels.
The best skeleton for the price in my experience are the Target skeletons. They are $40, and they're much thicker plastic with better color than the Michaels/Home Depot skeletons. Also, they're easy to take apart for alterations.
I agree with getting them from Target better quality and will last much longer than the ones Michaels, Home Depot or Oriental Trading sells. At Home sells the same kind that Target sells but are $59 (At Home) compared to Target $40 but you may be able to catch them on sell. I go if you can push the front rib cage to the back it is cheap plastic.
Thanks for the input everyone. I was looking at Home Depot and they have 5' poseable skeletons for $30 right now. I just ordered three of them. They should be here in a week. I'll let you know how they look.
Depending on where you live, Menards has them for $30. The plastic is a little thicker than others. I just saw them on the rack as they were putting them out but I'll be going back tomorrow for a closer inspection.
I've been following this trying to decide which skeleton would be best for a outdoor "elf on shelf" type of daily thing for the entire month. My local Lowe's said they are doing their largest Halloween yet. We'll see what that means lol. They only had a few things out but one of them is a posable skeleton, 5ft tall with a ratchet system for some joints. Major joints like shoulders have a bolt in place you simply loosen then tighten when it's in the desired position. He's marked at 39.99. Plastic felt sturdy and no heavy lights in the head. I'll go buy one in the next couple of weeks.
