Where does it start first?

I'm going over the posts of Halloween hitting some of the stores already and saw how some places have already received their decorations while others around me have nothing yet. So the question is which stores gets the good stuff first and how long does it take for it to spread to the others. I live in Michigan and we have almost nothing yet while Kentucky and SC already has theirs. Has anyone ever tried tracking for the fun of it?

My unscientific observation is......for major retailers (WalMart/Target/Dollar stores, Back to School needs to be cleaned out before Halloween is setup. So it depends on when schools go back in session. Here in Jersey its after Labor Day, so the back to school lingers into the second week of September. On HF, some other parts of the country, school starts earlier and thus so does Halloween! I believe the none back to school retailers, Lowes/HD/Pharmacies etc, try to be in the same time or a little earlier than the back to school retailers in their region. That said, saw the first "Halloween City" banner up this weekend! For me that is the first sign of Halloween season!!

Very good.

I know there are a lot of myths about Halloween becoming the #2 holiday next only to Christmas.

These are all FALSE however.

Halloween is a distant 8th when it comes to the big Retail Holidays.

#1 is, predictably, "Winter Holiday" spending.

#2 is BACK TO SCHOOL.

Halloween is thus sandwiched in between these two much more important events, and a secondary concern to the stores.

My guess is that as far as brick & mortar stores go, the craft retailers like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joanns, etc. are the first ones out with stuff either fall or Halloween, quickly followed by Christmas stuff about a week after if not before or at the same time.
Articles about national spending all use "holidays", "fastest growing", then they start going into cards, candy, food.....etc.
Super Bowl is not yet a Holiday, thus it doesn't count on some listings.

My biggest distress is waiting for the POP up stores to open, "opening soon", "opening September" banners.
Their problem sometimes is with town inspectors and spirit has gotten better with their website being "almost" current.
But, if animals were teased like this, the SPCA would be called, how can there be a Banner "opening in September" and its 9/7 and not yet opened!!
I sometimes stop to peak through the windows.

I can never decide if the pictures taken and posted by members of THEIR stores stocking Halloween, while MY stores shelves are still lacking, helpful (wow I can plan to get that item) or teasing (ha ,ha OUR shelves are stocked and yours aren't)! :)

I know I'm just too sensitive, I should just be happy not having to drive 2 hours to Halloween Shop.
A couple of years back, all within 3 miles from my home, 2 spirit stores, Halloween City, Halloween Express, Spooky Town, Party City, Target, WalMart, Lowes, HD and all of the Drugstores, ahh that was a great season!

Any Hardware Store is my "Halloween" Store, and even better are the Farm Supply stores! You can get electric fence items there that will keep vandals (and others) OUT of your place, 100%!! HAHAHHA!
Wanna build a real electric chair?
Oh, come on! Sure you do! Check your list of those you would like to take it for a" test-drive."

Heh, I almost bought some Christmas decorations at Hobby Lobby on Friday but didn't have a coupon handy.
Michael's and HomeGoods are first where I live. Target and Walmart and Walgreens don't start until after back to school. I understand from another thread that Costco will have stuff at the end of this month.
Have you all noticed how some states get the collections before others?
