Hi,

I am having trouble getting my DVD video into VSA. I have tried (DVDFab) to convert my DVD into AVI and keep getting a "ConnectFilters" error when trying to use with VSA's demo.

I tried this on two different machines with two different versions of Windows and get the same error so I suspect I might have a basic problem with the AVI creation.

What tool have you used to pull DVD video that has worked for import into VSA?

Thanks,
Tim

I'm not familiar with what VSA is, but as far as DVD extraction goes, Handbrake is a great (and completely free (free as in beer, no ads, spyware, malware etc)) tool for extracting DVD video as well as transcoding into other formats. All you need to do is:
1. Install Handbrake from here: http://handbrake.fr/

2. Handbrake (for legal reasons) does not ship with a file that lets it decode DVD streams, but you can manually add it in yourself (it's easy) by downloading the file separately. The directions to do so are here: http://www.webluke.net/2011/08/handbrake-windows-7-64-bit-dvd-ripping/.
There are also YouTube videos that show you what to do if you're not sure how to do it (such as http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wKIDpGTrRU)

3. Run Handbrake, pick your DVD source/track, output format and start converting!

Hope this helps.

A friend of mine really likes MagicDVD Ripper. I think I used it once and it worked well. It's not free, but it gives you a little demo time.

To close the loop here. I did a bunch of testing and figured out that my AVIs did not work but using DVIX or XVID did work. Unfortunately these formats produced too much loss for my application.

For all my DVD ripping, I use DVD Fab. It will rip a DVD down for you into whatever format you specify and has never failed me. With some fiddling, you can also select which parts of the DVD you want to pull out. http://www.dvdfab.com/
