This might be a stupid question, but I just watched Poletgeist recently, and I never heard of it before. It was quite good. I say popular as in many people have watched these movies. I'm not saying like movies that no one has heard of like on fear net.

These are some of the movies I think are popular and strictly Halloween movies that I've heard of:

Friday the 13th
Nightmare on Elm Street
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Mars Attacks
Nightmare Before Christmas
The Corpse Bride
Candy Man
Child's Play
IT (Even though I never watched the whole thing.)
The Mummy

Can you tell me anymore? (Forget Bats, Spiders, and Snake movies. I have enough I've seen of them already.)

Poltergeist seems to be an underrated horror film and I don't know why. If asked about it, many people will say it's good, but it isn't brought up much when on the subject of horror films. It ranks high on my list.

I don't know if they're considered popular anymore, but the classic Universal black and white films are still hard to beat for Halloween.

Halloween Top 10

You've named some of the same ones I picked, but I guess I'll add my personal Top 10 list. I would say my favs would be Halloween themed in nature, but some of the others contain the perfect atmosphere for October viewing or on All Hallow's Eve.

1. Halloween (original)
2. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton)
3. Disney's Halloween Treat (animated and more of a special)
4. Disney's animated The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
5. Curse of the Demon (excellent movie)
6. House on Haunted Hill (original with Vincent Price)
7. Dracula (black and white with Bela Lugosi)
8. The Haunting (original)
9. Forbidden Planet (atmospheric mix of sci-fi and horror)
10. Predator (too good not to include)

I can't stop here I guess...

11. Pumpkinhead
12. The Wolfman
13. Alien (best sci-fi thriller ever made)
14. It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
15. The Legend of Hell House (creepy flick)
16. Night of the Living Dead
17. Jeepers Creepers
18. Dark Night of the Scarecrow (really creepy music)
19. The Blair Witch (people either love it or hate it)
20. Frankenstein

Some more...

21. Dog Soldiers
22. The Mummy (original)
23. Halloween 3
24. Halloween 2
25. A Nightmare on Elm Street
26. Equinox
27. The Shining
28. The Ring (Ringu)
29. The Hollow (not a classic but a modern retelling of sorts of Sleepy Hollow)
30. Cat People (very understated but a classic)

I could go on...lol. I know I forgot a bunch.

Dawn of the Dead, the sequel to Night of The living Dead. I'm partial to the original 1978 version.

Also Day of the Dead

Most of my other favorites have been mentioned.

Poltergeist seems to be an underrated horror film. . .
. . . the classic Universal black and white films are still hard to beat for Halloween.
I agree on both counts.
