Walk the Plank pirate garage scene

Pretty much finished the Walk the Plank scene in my haunted pirate garage over the weekend.

This year, I focused on just creating the midship hull portion along one wall. It looks a little cheesy and incomplete in daylight, but the corners of the garage are cast in shadows at night, so the square edges should not be so noticeable. Next year I'll try to add a bow and stern section to make the ship complete, but for now, it's time to move on to other scenes.

I still need to add one key ingredient: a Bucky skeleton falling backwards off the end of the plank. I'll light him up with a red spotlight. I also have two DJ Hydro lights to cast a rippling water effect on the lower hull and the cannons will have flashing lights inside. Not shown is the wood dock walkway that parallels the ship's hull. I need the spare room in my garage to put up some partition walls, so the walkways sitting outside my garage in two 4' x 6' sections.

The scene was a fair amount of work, but everything breaks down into pieces for easy storage. The "hull" is simply 4' x 8' sheets of 3/8" barn siding plywood. The railing is an old wood ladder and the masts are cardboard sonotubes cut in half down their length. I reused three of the window cannons I made for last Halloween, so unfortunately I won't be able to give my neighbors a broadside this year. ;)

Thanks for looking!

looks great, i hope you get loads of trick or treaters !
That's some nice work.

I bet your neighbors are greatful. I'd hate to look out my window every morning and see that facing my house.
Great Work! Your neighborhood is very lucky to have you!
My Pirates Hat off to Ye. Your pic make me invision pirates with swords forcing someone off the plank. The person fall off on to a black pad below some thick fog. If you had the room in front of the Tots
That is absolutely outstanding! I love how you used the garage wall and created such a terrific looking vessel there. The star backdrop looks great too. Wow I don't think I've ever seen someone do a pirate ship inside. Can't wait to see the other items on your Plan B!

BTW I remembered your cannon windows from last year's pics. Nice repurposing.
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement everyone - it's keeping me going.

@ReaperRick - I'm in the process of setting up the partition walls that separate the Dungeon, Captain's Quarters, Cannibal Corner, and White Swan Tavern scenes. I hope to have those scenes up by next Monday, and I'll post those pics to my Dead Man's Cove 2010 album.
Warren, that is outstanding work as usual! Awesome job!

Eric

I have a pirate walking the plank prop on my ship too...

Here is the gang plank itself:

I had a skeleton on it in 2008:

And I put this guy on it last year:

I have also been known to have wayward sea dogs walk the plank too:

@mic214 - Thanks Mick! I love the evolution of plank walking in your display. So did the four-legged scallywag reveal the location of the treasure?

I plan to take advantage of the joists and strapping in my garage to actually suspend a Bucky in a pose that makes it look like he's falling backwards off the end of the plank. I'm sure I'll be cursing the Bucky's weight as I'm doing it. I also have some Barneys in my collection, but I want his arms outstretched to either side (and don't want to break/glue Barney shoulder joints to achieve that). Any suggestions?
Mic241, Oh your dog in costume is so cute! I bet he's a big hit halloween night along with your set up.

That sounds cool to have a Bucky posed like that on the gang plank....I think it will be a chore to wire up the arms and legs though...I guess you would have to wire up the joints and then cover them with clothing to hide the wires and cables...
