Wal-Mart and Halloween

Well it's official, Wal-Mart does not care about being "Your place to shop for Halloween." Last week we received the LAST shipment of freight for Halloween. 4 boxes, 3 of which were small child monkey outfits. But we have received a lot of Christmas boxes in. That and the fact that Wal-Mart has absolutely crap for merchandise this Halloween.

Strange

I live in NM, and in a very isolated area. The Wal mart in Las Cruces has tons of costumes but no props. I have seen on this board that Walmarts across the country have really cut back and everyoneone is disappointed.
Lo and behold, yesterday we went to a Walmart in Alamogordo, and they had props! They had glitter skulls and skeketons in black and silver, as well as natural. They had creepy cloth for $3, hanging ghosts for $10 , led tombstones for $14, purple, orange, and clear string lights for $3.99-$5.99!
I was amazed. The large glitter skulls were very nice and only $4 each. I got a cardboard black glitter candelabra that was $4.
I woulda took pics, but I am old and I don't have good pic posting skills.
Go figure.
Yeah, I'd pretty much already figured that one out. All I can say is, our wm is going to be stuck with a truck load of giant plastic bowls and blue and purple trick or treat pumpkins...
Are they even carrying props this year? All I saw when I went there about three weeks ago were masks, costumes, and candy. Not even a single foam tombstone was out...(almost sounds like a Halloween version of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas', doesn't it?:p)
Off topic, but could topic person please say your username backwards? :D
yeah I personally stop shopping at WalMart during the month of Oct.. not worth my time anymore. I rather go to Meijer or Target for their selections
I have to go there because its the only place I know around town that I can get cans of spray paint for $1. Makes me angry walking by! I hope they do horrible sales on their costumes. In my mind, props are not only there for sale, but as decorations. Get people in the mood then they will buy a costume.

lol, I'm not quite ready to go back just yet.
Michaels hands down out did everyone in my area, they have a sign on the front of the store that says Halloween Headquarters and I thought No poop!
With regards to Walmart I spoke with the home office and they are stating that Dept 18 in recent years has too much left over when it comes to Halloween merchandise and have to clearance too much of it. I personally find that hard to believe but I don't have access to the data, so I take their word for it and am disappointed to say the least. I will try Target and see what they have.
Walmart for Halloween shopping is as futile as trying to set alight a bucket of water.
Kind of off topic. But another thing that gets my goat about Walmart is that they used to have awesome deals on the premiere DVD for the week at $14. Walked in there a couple weeks back to get a copy of Wolverine and paid $21 for it.

Well people already see them as evil. Why spread the flames?

Or maybe he can't say it backwards. It's a very difficult word. It's Klpxzytm. That's the correct spelling backwards isn't Mr. Mxyztplk?
^Do you know why I said that? If not, he's a character in Superman, and if Superman gets him to say his name backwards (Klpxzytm), he goes back to his own dimension instead of earth. Sorry, off topic, but many people don't understand that character, and it's kind of cool to joke about that character when someone actually gets it.
Went to Scary Walmart today....saw loads of endcaps-almost three fourths of the way across the store-decorated with Halloween signs. Heart beating loudly in anticipation....raced towars the isles.....only to see.....nothing. It sucked. Paper cup cake liners, a few tombtones and skellies, some black pumpkins I bought 50% off last year. They didnt even have all their candy out. Is it too much to ask for a bag of Hersheys with Almonds fun sized-with the crunchy almonds...the yummy mini bars only made at Halloween. IS IT TO MUCH TO ASK?? ISSS IITTT??????? Ok. im ok now. Thanks.:D
Hey WeirdRob,

I have no idea what your talking about. Saying my name backwards, lol. Now why would I ever want to say Klpxzytm anyway

Ah Crud
I know exactly what you're talking about my husband and I went in there yesterday and he was ohhhhhhh look they must have put more stuff out (I've been complaining for a month about the lack of anything other than costumes). Why does he say this because they have those halloween endcap signs all the way down the store. There's a huge sign hanging up front of the store that says your Halloween Superstore... What did I find when I got in the aisle ....... squat. I HATE IT!!!! What did I see in the aisle sitting on a shelf? All kinds of tags for items they aren't carrying at this store for different halloween categories ....... lights props etc. I'm so upset at them this year. It's pathetic when The Dollar Tree has better Halloween stuff than Walmart does (not that I don't love my Dollar Tree mind you).

Good.
I'm glad that Walmart has decided to leave that particular market to other, more worthwhile vendors.
They don't need to be the only place to buy everything...

"We here at B&L are ready to provide all your Halloween needs, and don't forget your special Halloween cake in a cup!"

"Attention, all Axiom passengers, it's October on old Earth, so remember, orange is the new red!"
@ Halloweenfan - I already knew that. I was tyring to trick him into correcting me and saying it the right way. :D

@ Mr. Mxyztplk - lol!

The more pressing matter is why wouldn't Wal-Mart go after Halloween? Do they not see any financial opportunities? And by "financial opportunities" I mean profit.
My local walmart is awesome..they are JUST (which sucks but should be done I hope this weekend) putting up another shelf for Halloween props..they prop selection is average..the thing is comparing the Canadian Walmarts to the US Walmarts it seems we have a lot compared to you guys..I have one "mega Walmart" near by and have yet to check them out again..but did buy a hanging skull prop that talks VERY LOUD and I liked that purchase to say the least..

In closing..I think they are doing a good job..prices are average and nothing to get excited over..but the candy is out..props keep going up..so it isn't that bad here..and another thing I am lucking out (off topic) with a local moms and pops store which is carrying animated props for half the price of major outlets..going there today again for deals lol..

Our WalMart has as much merchandise as last year, but the non-candy Halloween stuff is sort of stuck back farther inside the store, whereas last year it was all front-and-center.

But they do have probably as much stuff in general as last year.

I like Target more for decorations...but I do Wally World for candy. They have some REALLY cool stuff this year. Just different kinds of candy, specialty stuff. My kids went apeshoot last time we were in WM.
