I don't know why this never occurred to me before. Our house has the PERFECT front-facing window on which to project a FearFX image. Yet I've never done it. That changes this year. I don't mind spending a buck, but am quite clueless as to how much brightness we will need. My question; how many Lumens will we need to get a really good image? Ambient lighting near the window is very low to nil. Any input from you more experienced Haunters is greatly appreciated.

you shouldn't need much. You will want to project it onto a thin plastic shower curtain hanging in front of the window though. If you don't have any ambient light it should not take much at all. Just depends on how much of a statement you want to make.

If you get a projector with at least 2000 lumens you will be able to use it in various locations and even summertime backyard movies.

I bought one of those light projection for home depot. Just playing around mind you thinking it wouldn't be strong enough. How ever I was wrong it worked well even for the curtains I had in place (which happens to meet the requirements i read about). So I really don't think you need to much. But like RichB said a higher one leads to more versitilty.

Makes me exicted to use my real projector for the first time this year also!

Here is what i was talking about. You know it can be that strong but it works.

Lumens Lumens Lumens.......you can really never have enough but, as Rich B said.....2000 Lumens ought to suffice nicely. I have a small portable Viewsonic projector and a larger HP projector and they both get the job done on Halloween. The Viewsonic has, maybe 1500 lumens and i use it to project into a bedroom window at night, perfectly visible!

My old 500 lumen projector that I've been using for the past 5 years works just fine to project my Hallowindow DVDs onto a window from inside my house (I really sound like a Hallowindow shill, as much as I post about it).

I project it onto a white fabric shower curtain that I got from Target for $10.

If you want to completely eliminate the need for a DVD player, you should try a portable digital media player. This plays a bunch of different files from Android, Apple, Windows, and Mac formats as well as music and pictures! I have a bunch of Atmosfearfx videos saved on a 32GB thumbdrive as well as Halloween videos. The Micca Speck comes with a remote control which is very handy. It also has a random play feature which is nice if you want to show different scenes from various video files. The only downside is that you need a male to female HDMI to VGA adapter to play it on VGA projectors. If your using a projector that has HDMI input then all you need is the HDMI cable. Happy Haunting!

I second both of those recommendations!! I have 3 Micca Speck units and they are perfect for running a projector!!
