I'm working on a scary Great Pumpkin setup and want to have the Great Pumpkin (the 12 foot tall one from Spirit Halloween), look like he is standing up and charging coming towards the viewers on a run of about 12 feet. I think having him hanging from an overhead pipe frame system using PVC would work well, but I haven't been able to find examples. Does anybody know of one?

For the speed and payload capacicity you would be happy with - Dry Cleaner Conveyor? I've been looking at them on Ebay for years.
I've had better luck with air. Note from experience: Most store bought props are not meant to be pushed or flown aggresively without reinforcement.

I think the automation is gonna be your challenge. A single cable stretched tight would support it, don't really see the need for a PVC pipe system.

Surplus Center always had those cheap. I've always thought about building a running prop with one of them.

I thought this as well. I have an old one that ive been thinking of doing something like this

I set up an old garage door opener in the trees for the haunted trail a couple years ago. In testing it beforehand the slow speed didn't do much for a scare and the noise of the opener was a minus, IMO. But i did end up using it a short distance from the trail with a 'ghost' made of clearish trash bags and a short strip of LED lights hanging from it that was tripped by an actor that had the remote in his pocket. I thought it added effective atmosphere to the woods.

Actually if you use a screw drive garage door opener. Only use the track and screw section. Hook it up with a wiper motor and a large sprocket you can get great speed and quiet as well.
