In Funkstown, Md., which is a very small town in western Maryland, they had Trick or Treat night on Friday the 27th.Our place is a simple neighborhood front yard, not a professional haunt, but we were working on last minute props and fixes right up until the last minute. First the trick or treaters came slowly, then after dark, {as it should be!] they came in hordes! We usually average over 300 each year. This year we had over 500+ trick or treaters!!! And that's not including adults and guardians. Quite a few people remembered our tiny house from years past, and we got many really great compliments. Our stuff is very creepy, but as my wife says;-" nothing jumps out at you "' cause we do have a multitude of little ones and not peeing or crapping in your pants or being traumatized is an appreciation both parents and the kids themselves value. As spooky as it is, we've had parents tell us our house was the first house their little ones wanted to go to without being petrified. We're more like the Addams Family, than Leatherface. Not that there's not a place for the more graphic forms of Halloween! And I'm really grateful to have a wife that not only supports and helps me with my eerie endeavors, but takes great pleasure in handing out candy, spider rings and Playdough each and every Halloween!!!

Everything's been over for us the past few days, but the rainy weather and winds have caused havoc here. I guess the decorations will remain up for longer than usual this year so they can dry out, before they can be put away. Or maybe for that really creepy look {and looks askew!!!] keep them up year round like some people do with their Christmas lights! Ha Ha! I'm sure that would ensure the" Town Kooks Award"!

I'm slowly thinking the last Friday or Saturday in October should be trick or treat night. These midweek Halloweens are rough. Problem is the tradition and people who will never change. Just my .02

i've long thought that adults would benefit from weekend ToT and other types of celebrating, but kids may prefer weeknight observance--i remember as a kid a lot of the fun came from waiting through the school day for ToTing after school, and all the stuff you got to do at school as well. of course, from all reports, schools are doing less and less to celebrate, so maybe that reasoning goes out the window now.

I know it historically hasn't been a popular position on this forum, but I do believe that Trick or Treat night should be on a weekend. It is too much for little kids to be out late on a school night, get sugared up and be expected to pay attention the next day.

Halloween would still be October 31.

Also... I used to be against trunk or treats and shopping center trick or treating, but I gotta say... times have changed.
This year... (granted this is not normal)
- Trick or Treat on a cruise ship (thanks grandparents)
- Trick or Treat at Disney World Not So Scary HW Party
- Trunk or Treat at School
- Trick or Treat at the Zoo
- Trick or Treat at Scout campground
- Trick or Treat at a huge outdoor shopping center (they did an awesome job!)
- Trick or Treat at Publix (grocery store) They gave out nice bags, had a cookie decorating table, had games and candy... it was surprisingly well-done. We went on a whim.
- Trick or Treat traditional.

That's a lot of freaking candy and we didn't even do all of the things offered. I think I could be perfectly happy decorating for HW, and just enjoying the shopping center. Candy, party, dinner, etc... safe and easy to walk, with lots of people around. There just aren't many kids in our neighborhood.
