ok im new to makeing my own props and for years i would just cut up some plywood and make it look creapy and the other day i stumbled on a DIY how to make them out of styrofoam and i thinking to take a shot at it but the only thing i could find at LOWES is something called POLYSTYRENE i think i spelled it right yall might now what im talking about ...........:confused:well what i have to ask is whats the difference?:confused:

im not sure if thats the hard stuff or not the best i can tell is the pink or blue insulation sheets. i dont know what the heck its made of really.

but its kind of softish
If it's white and it made of little beads than that is not the favorite styro for props (which we call the blue or pink foam). But is completely doable to make tombstones. I hear it's a little tougher to get the details (not sure, never used it). I noticed that you live in SC. In southern climes the hardware stores don't readily carry the blue or pink foam so you may have a tougher time finding it.

Styrofoam is a brand of polystyrene made by Dow Chemical. They make the blue insulation board. The pink is that same thing, only made by Owens/Corning.

man that makes me want to cry all becouse i live in the dirty south they dont have the stuff i nead ( big plus.... i might be able to use those tears in my haunt this year.....sweet!!! )
well i might have to try it and see how it goes that styro is that muck only at 5 dollors a sheat its not like im going to be flushing a bunh of money down the drain!
thank you all for the info. im going to give it a try this weekend and see how it goes. and well post some pic.s up soon.
If you're using the white stuff just make sure to use water-based paint! Otherwise it will eat the styrofoam.
