"The Watching" is available now for pre-order from Bad Moon Books. This is the first edition of their new Halloween line, and if you order direct from them a special chapbook of Halloween stories will be included, with one from Halloween master Al Sarrantonio himself! Don't miss out on this limited edition certain to become a collector's item. Jill Bauman did an excellent job with the artwork, and she's illustrated books by Stephen King, Dean Koontz and hundreds of magazines including Reader's Digest and Weird Tales.

Synopsis

A young girl witnesses something horrific from her bedroom window, a scene which snatches away her childhood innocence and replaces it with terror. Her life becomes a routine of desperation filled with shadows and darkness, void of any hope. Her home becomes her prison, her life an unending cycle of despair. And her nightmares are of the worst kind, ones which are not separated by the barrier between dream and reality.

"Paul Melniczek ranks among that elite cadre of bright new authors who are collectively producing a 21st-century renaissance of high-quality horror fiction. His work is literate and moving, and displays a genuine understanding of the genre's roots, combined with an excellent sense of how best to honor and extend these in contemporary tales of supernatural horror. The Watching may be his finest effort yet, with its supernatural story of wrenching loss and shattered dreams wrapped in a delicious and deeply emotional evocation of autumnal darkness in a small American town."

-Matt Cardin, Author of Dark Awakenings

Psychological vs Supernatural? The best dark fiction always treads softly a line between the two. And such is the case with THE WATCHING, with perhaps a lean one way and then the other at the end. Slow but efficient creation of mood and unsettling spooky plot developments just out of clear sight, in many ways reminiscent of the 20th century classical stories by the masterful hands of some of the British greats, like Algernon Blackwood, Arthur Machen, M.R. James, or the Irishman, J.S. LeFanu. The author is obviously aware of these legendary masters of the macabre across the pond. But he is equally aware of the American classics, too, like THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, and THE EVENTS AT POROTH FARM. Ah, puffed-up comparisons you say? Hey, skeptic, do yourself a favor and read THE WATCHING...and then underline that name: Paul Melniczek.

Gene O'Neill, author of TASTE OF TENDERLOIN and DOC GOOD'S TRAVELING SHOW

Thanks everyone for checking this out. It's great to be working with Bad Moon Books and kicking off their Halloween line.
