Does anyone else remember this Halloween special? I loved it as a kid and would always went it from this video store. I remember not being able to figure out as a kid what time period it took place in, the people seemed to be in period clothes but they had TV, it was kind of strange but that’s what I liked about it. I was able to find a torrent of a vhs rip and burned it to dvd-r. I can’t wait to watch it close to Halloween. I bet I haven’t seen it in 15 to 20 years!

No one? Really?
Sorry, never heard of it. But upon searching for it I see that it is very well liked.
I don't remember it. Looks like it came out in 1979, so I was the right age. I'm going to get a copy off ebay and see if it sparks a memory.
I remember it.

Had a heck of a time trying to find it, years back. Didn't help that someone thought they needed to change the name of it to "Night Dracula saved the World". Ended up ordering it through my local video store, because I couldn't find it through regular sources.

It came out October 28th, 1979 on tv. Won Primetime Emmy. Another 3 nominations. Starred: Judd Hirsch, Mariette Hartley, Henry Gibson, & Jack Riley.
I was thje right age when this come out but I don't remember it.
check it out on youtube- someone has posted it in three parts
Here is a review of it from the archives of X-entertainment.

X-E's 2007 Halloween Countdown: THE NIGHT THAT DRACULA SAVED THE WORLD!
I don't ever remember seeing this but look forward to watching it today. Last year I was reminded of another one I loved when younger- Dark Night of the Scarecrow with Charles Durning and Larry Drake. A made-for-tv movie- much darker, not for the little kids.
I LOVED THIS MOVIE!
My sister and I used to watch it every year, and I almost forgot about it. Truly, nobody's Dracula can touch Judd Hirsch!
Best line in the movie:
Frankenstein's Monster: My feet hurt!
Count Dracula: Don't give me that! I happen to know those aren't your feet!
Frankenstein's Monster: What did you have to bring that up for?

classic...
I have it recorded onto a VHS tape from when I was a kid. It was during a Halloween marathon on the old Disney Channel. The tape also has Raggedy Ann and Andy and the Pumpkin Who Couldn't Smile + The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It's such an amazing tape. I watch it every Halloween. I really need to get it put on DVD so I can have it forever!

Wow, I forgot all about that Raddedy Ann And Andy special. Seems like I saw it on the Disney channel as well. Seems like so long ago.

To bad Disney doesn't have Vault Disney channel or something to play this stuff on.
Dating "The Night Dracula Saved the World" isn't hard.

I remember when it first aired, but even the casual viewer will take note that in the end, the Witch agrees to fly over the Moon, thus bringing about Halloween, but on the condition that Dracula takes her... disco-dancing.

He does.

Oh, yeah. Easy to date.

Almost as obvious as the 70's Halloween cartoon "Witch's Night Out", where monochromatic kids and their hippy babysitter get turned into the monsters they always wanted to be for Halloween, thus learning that the witch up on the hill is a pretty cool broad, man...
I LOVED this show as a child. I think it used to come on the original Disney channel. Then after all these years, last year I was trying hard to remember the name of it and I finally found out what it was. Do kids just not like this kind of stuff anymore or do the powers that be just think children would not like these great classics? There's just nothing on tv anymore that even comes close to comparing to these types of specials. Sure, it's a little dated, but they've been playing Charlie Brown stuff going on 50 years!
