The Munsters and Addams Family (TV) turn 50

We were Munster fans. I loved that show! Never watched Addams Family.

Both shows are fantastic. Of course, I caught them as reruns. It is difficult to believe that they are each half a century old...

I loved them both for different reasons, but they're both in my can-watch-them-anytime collection....

though I do tell DH that he's my Gomez.....*wink*

Wow! 50 years! I came to both of these a little late. I used to watch Munsters when I was wee, but the Addams Family seemed more like a show for big people back then. So it wasn't until much later that I got on that bus.

Love 'em both!

The two Addams Family movies were on tv recently and I DVRd them for watching over and over again!

Gee, now I really feel old. I liked and watched both shows, but I think I'll always like The Munsters just a little bit better than The Addams Family.

I remember seeing the Munster house on the Universal backlot tour around 1980. I was amazed how small it looked in real life. Hopefully they never tore it down.

Same here.

I tried to figure out why & realized that the Munsters were just a "regular" family (at least they thought they were). They didn't revel in or even really recognize their oddness like the Addams. They were just mom, dad, son, grandpa & cousin & all thought they were "normal."

Not that I don't love the Addams too, they were pretty awesome too. You can get any hotter than Morticia & Gomez together. And that was in an era when married couples were still show sleeping in twin beds!!

But the Munsters were known monsters, Frankenstein's monster, vampires, a wolf-kid & then poor ugly Marilyn. Maybe that's another reason I like them just a teeny tiny bit more.
