I learned about the Teal Pumpkin Project last year. I don't quite remember where but I think it was on this forum. I had candy and glow sticks. The kids love both. It's a great idea. They have printables and stencils on the website (http://www.foodallergy.org/teal-pumpkin-project#.V9mtHZgrKUl) so you can make your own pumpkins and signs. I think I'm going the lazy route and getting the teal pumpkin at a craft store since I'm planning on participating for many more years.

I posted about it on here last year. One of my nieces has a peanut allergy, and I know several local children with food allergies and one who has celiac disease, it makes what should be a fun holiday into a bit of a nightmare. So i hand out treat bags that have nut free candy, and have several non food items that kids enjoy.

I'm excited that Michaels has teal craft pumpkins though. I keep looking for the right color teal paint for one of my plastic ones, but if I can get a foam one already teal that would be ideal. I've been using posters you can print from their site, but I'd rather have an actual teal pumpkin.

I didn't put out a teal pumpkin last year, but I did have a mini cauldron of non-candy treats ready, in case someone mentioned allergies (and no tattoos, since some might still affect those with celiac).

I bought a DT pumpkin and teal paint from Walmart, but I just didn't do it. I found them both a week or so ago, and do plan on putting it out this year. I actually considered putting the teal pumpkin out "now" (well before the holiday), so that maybe parents will realize that we'll have non-food things, and they can count on us. I wondered too, if I should put out more than one, so they are seen more easily. (a larger pumpkin would probably just solve that problem, eh?)

I've been hitting thrift shops and buying up their "mixed bags" of small toys if they look good, and I've also bought sets of bracelets from DT and CVS that I can open the package and distribute a few here and there, instead of giving someone the entire pack of 10-30. It makes these treats super cheap, but still fun. I'm having more luck finding "girl" stuff, than I am finding "boy" stuff in bulk, though.

We give out glow bracelets to everyone, so that's not really an option for us for this. Several years ago I gave out Tiny Tim skulls from Anatomical Chart Company to kids who said that they couldn't have candy, but those can be kind of expensive. I'm going to have a look around at Oriental Trading and some other novelty sites.

So far for my treat bags I'm planning to get some kind of glow stick. Kids love them. I'm also going to order Halloween themed rubber duckies because I collect rubber ducks and I need to share my other obsession, lol. That's as far as I got.
I hit up the dollar stores. Pencils and erasers, glow bracelets, stickers, bouncy balls. Simple stuff. My oldest's birthday is in October, so I have stocks of this stuff for birthday party goody bags. I also grab it at the 50% off sales after halloween, so that I have it, since it will get used.

Picked up my teal pumpkin from Michael's this morning. Couldn't chance missing out on it at the 60% off price! Got it to the register and was bombarded by both of the cashiers asking if I knew about the Teal Pumpkin Project. They seemed very eager to make sure that everyone who bought one knew what it could be used for, which is fantastic! This will be my first year having trick-or-treaters and I want to make sure all the kiddos can go home with some great treats.

Just wanted to pass along that Target has a great selection of inexpensive non-food items to stock up on. Glow bracelets, erasers, rings, pencils, all that kinda stuff. I loaded up today while I was there. All in all spent less than $10 (I only get about 50 trick or treaters or so).
