We plan to use these Star Wars props for inside the garage in the Haunt this year, doing a Star Wars walk through in the garage and then out into the rest of the Haunt. I doubled up this year (finally getting smart with my building) and used the props early for my son's birthday party (he wanted a Star Wars theme). So..here are a few pictures of the finished props (BB8, R2, Tie Fighter). My two sons did most of the work and I did all the detailed painting. I'll post a link to the video of the party so you can see everything below. I also have a few how tos on our YouTube Channel for fun party stuff like a Death Star Pinata and droid table centerpieces (see in signature).
The props were super fun and I feel I have a jump on this year's Haunt build and it's only July! Woot! :)

How'd you make BB-8? I'm trying to build one for Halloween.
BB8 is all paper mache...I mached my balance ball (it was the perfect size for his body) and another beach ball (I think that was a 12" ball). I cut the smaller ball down (not completely half way but about 2/3rds down) for the head, cut a piece of form at an angle to mount the head above the top of the body ball and attached the head to the body with by gluing a piece of cardboard in between (I hot glued the head to the body after I got the piece of cardboard on...you can't hot glue the foam...it will just melt). Once all the parts were together (by the way....before I glued the head on I put one of my son's heavier toys inside the body so it wouldn't fall over but stay upright) then I just had to paint all the details on him. I used a plastic dome from an apple container to make the black dome on his head and the top of a water bottle for this sensor thing. both pieces were hot glued on his head. I used two skewers for his antenna (just poked them into his head). The paint took a bit of time to get all his details but it made him very life like. He is to scale (looks great next to the to scale R2) and it very photogenic. I'll make a Vlog on my youtube channel and post a link later :)

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions :)

I love it! I think the Star Wars theme is going to be a huge hit this year! Nice work and keep the build pics coming!

I think you are right...plus another flim is coming out around the holidays so...it is going to be big! I'm going to limit it to the garage, away from the rest of the "traditional" Haunt atmosphere but I think the kids are really going to like it :) I hope to get a few more ships done for a "space battle" in the garage so....I will post pictures! :)

These are so great! I love that you are getting double duty out of the props - both birthday party decor AND Halloween! And it's awesome to involve your kiddos with the prep work too - another generation of haunters in the making!

Your house will for sure be talked about this Halloween!

Thank you! I finally got smart and planned to use the boys' birthday props in the haunt :) Actually, what happened was the themes they chose for their parties worked out to be used in the haunt so...I got lucky this year! My younger son is having a pirate party so...I'm making props for his party that will be used next year since we plan to do a big pirate theme for 2017's haunt :)

My boys help me with everything...they love haunting and my oldest son is really getting into wanting all the props move! I have to some learning quick! :)
