Spirit Halloween Not Allowed to Videotape or Take Pictures In Store

I explain my experience in my new video. People tape and take pics in stores all the time though. Including Spirit employees after hours and taping themselves scaring people! this is probably a more interesting video anyway

Really? I took a load of photos and video taped almost all of the animatronics in our local store last week without anyone saying a word to me. I had NO idea! Oops :(
I wouldn't worry about it. It's free advertising for them! Ironically my vid is free advertising anyway lol We have three stores near here. I could ask them all but I bet it's the same response. I'm not knockin them just they should make the rules known. I haven't worked retail but as a graphic designer I've done a lot of Fortune 500 company product merchandising design. People I worked with would go into stores and take pics of packaging etc when digital cameras first came out. I always felt like I shouldn't be doing it though. So I took notes or sketched. A mobile phone makes it inconspicuous. I don't have one. I live in front of a MacBook Pro Retina lol I'm glad the vid effort was informative!
Most Spirit Halloween managers will let you as long as you do not interfere with other customers. I am pretty sure that it is up to the store manager. It is ABSOLUTELY NOT a corporate policy that you cannot take pics or videos.

I think the manager was covering their butt because they really didn't know. If I didn't say "corporate" I bet they wouldn't have said it either "um oh yeah corporate that's right yeah sure." I think they're more worried about their district manager who's more or less their boss if they somehow catch wind of it. It was during the day on a weekday and handful of people were in there. none paying attention to props. it wouldn't have been a problem. The rock music ruined it anyway. I'd feel funny taping inside any store really. It's incredible how many do it on youtube like they own the place lol. I do enjoy watching them though but some people make it 30min movie lol I could have done better quality is somewhat the irony. We have three stores in the area. One I'm pretty sure wouldn't care. I don't think I'll do it though. It was an interesting video to do in the end. In fact on a related note I look back on my 2008 yard haunt and can't believe kids and parents didn't care that I had the camera rolling the whole time lol One guy did ask nicely don't tape his kid. I was thinking "what the one with costume and batman mask" lol

Don't hate on me fools, but spirit is all bull this year. Too scary and gross I dont like.
I look forward to all the videos popping up on Youtube every year. It's great promotion for the company.
This a defenitely a manager issue. I worked for Spirit for years did my own videos videotaped others getting scared. Some stores use the reason due to licensing issues. That would be like saying Universal does want any filming Halloween Horror nights! Its strictly free advertising and I would guestimate that a lot of people go because after seeing vids posted on the tube has a great influence. I myself have vids of other stores and never came across issues of this sort, unless its new corporate policy. Good luck trying to stop people on this one.

I was at Spirit yesterday and the manager was standing next to me as I was filming. We were talking about the rise in prop prices and hot sellers this year. He was a hoot. Great guy. It must vary by location.

There also seems to be the assumption that all video/photos = going online for mass consumption, which isn't necessarily true. 90% of the time I'm taking video of things like this it's for my personal use or to show a limited amount of friends and family on snapchat or something. It seems absurd in that case that they'd be sticklers about it. That said, it must be store by store as mentioned, because I've never been told not to video or photograph props.

Actually you know what since I thought about it more. That's really the point of the video. Spirit themselves didn't reply to an email asking them directly. I'll take your word for it and whomever worked at Spirit in the past. However Spirit didn't say what is or isn't their policy. I probably should have stressed that more. It was a rare video were I just talked into the headset to share an experience. But bottom line I want to hear from Spirit corporate. That's my only real criticism of the situation. Not even a reply to well-worded specific info email. And well the manager really didn't know. I don't blame them for erring on the side of caution. I'm sure they were caught off guard by the query. It would have been interesting if I had been recording without asking. Whether it be with a camcorder or mobile device-I've even seen selfie sticks these days. Or with the neighbor's kids lol Unless people edit it out of their videos you never see an employee go up to them.
