Looking for ideas to create large quantity of Spanish Moss.

The stuff in the little bags is okay for the top of tombstones but I need to hang it from trees in a volume that will show up easily and not blow away.

Has anyone on here successfully created this effect?

I used lengths of black cloth, with strips cut into it and shredded, and just draped it like the moss you see in the trees. Same effect at night as far as I was concerned.

I think I have seen people unravel hemp twine and also burlap. Sounds tedious...

Maybe glue smaller amounts to thin branches, and have them hanging down. Hobby lobby has the large bags and you can get them fairly cheap with the coupon

Hmmm. I think that would be too light weight. Plus, it sounds like a lot of tedious work to dye it green.

I've seen cheesecloth suggested. Wash it, hang it to dry, 'dye' it, shred it, hang it. Creepy cloth looks similar but it's more expensive.

I would use a mix of green and orange pekoe tea to stain it. Might work!

If you want to go with the real stuff - I've picked up boxes on Ebay. I think I saw a 5lb case on Amazon for about $40. a 5lb box goes a long way!

I toyed with the idea one year and ended up using green creepy cloth wrapped around moss. They actually went together quickly and I was able to get them to hang longer than moss alone.

I have bought it off eBay several times. You can usually get 20lbs for around $30.00. That includes the shipping cost.
FYI if you order it don't leave the box sealed because it will rot and DONT open it in the house. It often has little bugs and can be pretty messy.

I had my parents grab me 2 garbage bags full from their property in Florida (it's everywhere in FL). Do you know anyone who is driving north from a southern state that can bring you some?

I live in Canada so bringing it across the border is not an option.

I have also ordered it from eBay, I found a guy that was selling 20 pounds for $20 with free shipping. I bought from him a couple of times. Along with not opening in the house and not leaving the box sealed, I'd like to add that stuffing it in a tote with a lid will make it mold, and if you leave the lid off but don't occasionally fluff it, the stuff in the bottom will still mold. (At least in Missouri weather)
