sound system suggestions

I've picked up a couple of computer speakers from Goodwill and rummage sales. Each one was <$10. These are great for areas that have a small space and these systems (depending on brand) can pack a punch. For Big sound,, I'd check sellers on craigslist. There are people that sell old receivers and large floor speakers. This may be more up your alley if you have a lot of low bass and you want to blanket a large area with sound

I personally use a bookshelf system (popular in the 90s) to broadcast the main music selection and a small wireless system( from sharper image) and computer speakers with subwoofers for the ambient sounds/music.

You can get some pretty nice computer speaker/subwoofer sets for a lot less than that and they won't need an amp. The set I use for my actual computer cost a little less than $50 and they put out a really great quality big sound. I found a set at a thrift store for $10 that weren't quite as nice but still put out a surprising sound, I use them in my garage with my phone for a compact sound system.
