I'm working on this year's yard decorations and I could use some help. Our theme this year will be the Skeletal Apocalypse and the basic plan is to have as many skeletons as possible climbing all over the house, roof and coming our of our front yard apparently bent on gaining access to the humans inside the house. I already have 5 life sized skellies and 3 4" skellies that will literally be climbing the walls, but I don't feel like that is enough. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what else I can do? I'm planning to use blue and green flood lights to illuminate the roof and yard, too. Any and all suggestions would really be appreciated from all of you creative people!

How about some skulls partially buried in the yard in mounds mulch as if coming out of the ground. Partial skellies too.

I always liked seeing homes decorated with invading skeletons! Maybe you could incorporate some of the skelly cats, dogs rats and bat into the scene. Or, if you try UnOrthodOx's suggestion you could use that technique to ,make a couple of skeleton horses with boney riders directing the assault from your front yard.
We are planning something similar this year as well! Had so much fun with the skeleton holiday theme last year that we wanted to add more this time!

Wolfbeard - That is exactly what we want to have! I especially love the skellie that's helping to push up the other skellie to the roof. Brilliant!
McBernes, I already have a wide assortment of animal skeletons, too (cats, lizard, wolf, spiders, etc. I figured I would just scatter them around as well. Sure wish I could afford one of those life-sized skeleton of a horse that Lowes sells every year, but they are just a little bit steep.

I would attach 5 to 6 Skeletons across one side of the house , then have a spot for each one turning on then off from one direction,making it seem that one skeleton is crawling across your house, then flip a switch and light them all up at once for the big skelly show.

If you have a chimney, tie a rope around it, then have a skeleton at the edge holding the rope over the edge, perhaps pulling up another. At the chimney you can put another skeleton, maybe one climbing down it (ie just have legs poking out but that's a little subtle for a high roof.) The one on the side could be either a cheap blow mold one ($12 bucks 11/1 and 11/2 at spirit), a $30 Home Depot one wired to 45 degrees, or one of those light Climbing Dead. The 1st and 3rd options appeal because they are very light. No, they don't look as good.
Also, just a minor correction on another post: Horses were at HD, not Lowe's, and 2016 was 1st year.
You can never go wrong with a skeleton army. I got a 6.5' skelly after Halloween 2015 from Halloween City for $50. Haven't used him yet.
Also, if you have a fence, you can get cheap head and arm skeleton props (I got a bunch from Dollar Tree for $5 each) and put them coming over the fence. Put cheap weapons/tools in their hands. I have a couple that I attached to thin poles and rigged up $15 rotisserie grill motors to lift up and down.
Lastly, in the very early season you can put skellies out mowing the lawn, trimming the hedges.

I did something similar last year with the horse. I mounted a skelly with a mask, a cuirass from one of my kids, but I gave him a spiked flail for a weapon. In retrospect, I wish I had bought one of those werewolf skeletons to put on the horse. Because why not?
I would animate at least one of them, add sound, and maybe have them "talk" to the Trick or Treaters.
I'm reviewing the forum and Halloween Bob's posts on animating the skeleton and the skull.
I plan on building a 3 Axis Skull soon.

Looks interesting. I'm wondering about the quality. Has anyone seen one close up and personal?
For the price, it is hard to beat. It also comes with an external microphone so the user can add their own voice(s).
By the time you do a Bucky or Lindberg skull and add a servo, and a skeleton, this unit already has it done.
Sometimes the Chinese do it even cheaper than DIY.
