Uruk-Hai, your stones are unreal. Very Jealous of your tombstones.

Great pics everyone! I know there are a lot more out there. Compare these to the crap stones you buy at Halloween outlets, most of which cost around thirty bucks. I'd venture to say most of the stones pictured were made for substantially less, are better quality and more realisitc. Last year we saw a flood of new tombstone concepts and I'm thinking 2010 will be the same. Let's see 'em!

Wow! Those are wonderful! I love the H.P. Lovecraft headstone, the bleeding Lizzie Borden gravestone, and the work that must have went into the "Beloved" stone...awesome. I have to second that these are so much cooler than anything you can buy. Great work. These are pieces of art! :)

Haha, Love the tombstone BeaconSamurai! I was never a huge fan of Bluckies, but your work is slowly turning me!

@Urak Hai - Your H.P Lovecraft stone is AWESOME. Probably the coolest tombstones I have ever seen!! The detail and theme is just too cool. The celtic cross is awesome too, but the H.P Lovecraft one.. geez! *Drool*

@Vai Your poe stone is awesome too! The shape/design/painting is top notch!! I have a soft spot for authors I suppose! Great work!

All the tombstones in this post kicks butt! Keep it coming so we can get some more inspiration! :)

Iam but a mere peon compared to all of you. I sit in awe....I cant even figure out how some of you managed to make these. Back to the drawing board i go.
There are tutorials on many of them and if you can't find one, just ask away. With some simple tools you can make a really nice monument.

Just finished this today. My first tombstone using foam. I used what I learned from Terra's how to videos when making them (thanks Terra!). While working, I realized that you can work the foam like wood. So, I used my Rasp, files and sandpaper for effects. For the large letters I used my Router.

In this picture, the display is not sitting properly, it is to lean at a slight angle.
I used my airbrush for weathering. Light colors first and slowly going darker. I could have went heavier, but then they would all look alike so I decided to "go lite" on this one.
I added some green color by the base to simulate the staining that occurs from grass cutting.
Of course I added moss for effect. The skull lights up, I'm not sure how well it will light up if I paint it Grey.

Pretty happy, learned a lot that I can apply to the next one. I must admit tombstone building is more fun than I first thought, think I might be hooked!

Outstanding job! I can only hope my first one looks nearly as nice

My small version of a "beloved" stone:

My dollar store foamboard obelisk:

And my Stone of the Wolfman:

The eyes of the wolf light up red. :) The epitaph is the poem from the movie:
Even a man who is pure of heart
and says his prayers at night
may become a wolf
when the wolvesbane blooms
and the autumn moon is bright
