Have any of you all ever conducted a seance or played with a ouija board?
Ive done a seance once, and a loud noise went off as soon as we "conjured" the spirit. Im super skeptical though, but some things leave me with unexplained chills. I would say 95% of things can be logically explained, its the other 5% im worried about.

As far as ouija goes, I have used it and I am skeptical.....however Im not for sure whether its genuine or not, so might as well just not find out

I'm setting up a seance parlour for Halloween this year but I've never conducted a seance or attended one.

Ouija boards work which is why they freak people out. It must be some kind of subconcious muscle thing that makes you move the planchette when you'd swear you weren't.

yes they are very weird. What if the spirits are using your subconscious mind? Still skeptical, but I try to remain open minded. After all, at one point in time people didn't believe in atoms either.

On the other hand, love the seance room idea! Such a good idea.

Yes, I'm looking forward to setting up the Victorian seance parlour. Originally, I'd planned to stage one or two seances on Halloween but it takes a lot of rehearsal to get that right and if you don't it's really BAD.

I'm going to try hanging a tambourine and horn by fishing line and hopefully you won't see them in the dark so they'll look suspended. Then a small fan out of sight to get the tambourine to jingle. I also have a cool scary face that lights up, fades, and lights again so I'm going to hang her somewhere to look like a spirit is visiting. Also a Ouija board. The fortune telling area will have a crystal ball and tarot cards. That's just the start but it's always evolving.

I haven't been to a seance, but would like to go to one sometime.

As for Ouija Boards, I have used one once. It was a couple years ago and I was playing with a bunch of my friends (teenage girls). I doubt anything worked the way it was supposed to. It wasn't scary, but that's probably because we were all making jokes and being silly. However, it probably would freak me out if I did it again in a more serious manner. I think they can work, but you have to be in a place where there's an ample amount of spirit energy already there, not just anywhere.

My favorite Ouija story:

I have a "Psychic Circle", which is Ouija in style, but not a true Ouija board. I lived alone in an apartment when I was about 25, and I had just gotten it. A friend of mine came over one night, and wanted to try it out. I'm sure that she was moving the planchette, because I wasn't. Suddenly, the lights went out with an audible CLICK of the switch!

We both screamed!

Then I realized that it had been my cat that turned the lights off, because the ceiling fan in the room had long strings on its switches. I had tied a new toy to one string for her, accidentally using the light string for it, rather than the fan string.

:D

I just purchased a ouija board and received it in the mail the other day. I've never conducted a seance before and kind of want to do it by myself, but apparently this is not a good idea. Is it simply because it will not work, or is it actually dangerous to go it alone?

Ouija boards are cardboard and plastic. Nothing more. They have NO power to contact or summon anything besides the imagination and anxiety of the people who use it. If it did, it wouldn't be sold at toy stores around the world. Ouijas got their bad reputation from the movies.

Just remember that it is your subconscience mind that moves the planchette (the ideomotor effect). Enjoy yourself!

No Oui-ja boards allowed in my haunted, haunted house, because we also live here!
The first story about the house as told to me by a former tennant involved "Something scary" happening as they were involved Oui-ji-ing, so they put the board away! Too Late!
After that a loud voice would sometimes wake them from a sound sleep by calling them by their first name. (My Ex said her name was being called during her seven years she spent here, in that same part of the house.)
As the owner of a haunted attraction for the last 26 years I hear such ghost stories and some Oui-ja board stories from my patrons.
I know a man who tried entertaining people with a "Show Seance" but quit after too many people would harp on him asking to do a real seance to ask a relative .. where they last hid "the Money?"
My only incident with a Oui-ja board happened in High School at a family Christmas party where the Cousin of my girlfriend moved the indicator around by herself after she asked it who my girlfriend was going to marry?
His initials came up "B W"
"But my initials are "J W"........then a few years later, she did marry a "B W"! ?

My cousin had a very bad experience using a Ouija board when she was in her early 20s so will not and does not condone the use of them because of this , i personally from stories i have heard from friends and family will never use one and have told my two daughters never to use one , i am from the old school of thought that we do not know everything in this world and there may be something spiritual in it and if not then there's something that can play with our psyche and cause paranoia or just allow us to believe sub consciously that there is something else whatever it is its not good .

I have not, but I would love to. I just recently purchased a Ouija board, but it's one of the newer ones...so I'm not too confident in it. I have yet to attempt to use it. I've heard the older wooden ones may work better...but they're so expensive. Agh. What a pickle.

I guess its just me being a coward , but i have wanted to buy a Ouija board just for my Halloween setup as i think you could do a few neat things with them and they are so easily recognizable , but was not happy about keeping it in the house the rest of the year , so much for the British stiff upper lip eh .....

I have also been told many stories from people coming through my haunt concerning very bad and scary experiences they have had with the O-J board. Some of them wished that they had NEVER tried it.
It can be some very serious stuff.

A friend of mine years back told me a story concerning an OJ board. He and his brother had found one in their grandmother's attic after she died. They took it of course, but never tried to use it in any serious setting. They did rig it up as part of a Halloween display. They set it up using magnets, one attached to the planchette and the others attached to servos and pulleys with some of the parts and mechanisms being cannibalized from other broken Halloween props. The intended "message" was to spell out "G-O A-W-A-Y" and it worked. However, when they went to unplug it at the end of Halloween night they found it already unplugged but still working. According to my friend, the cord was its only source of power. He told me they just left it alone until the next day being too freaked out o try to touch it. When they looked at it, the servos were all broken and the magnets didn't work anymore.

I have never personally used one, not because of fear so much but rather the potential inability to focus their own energy(ies) in regard to whomever I would be doing this with. Basically, I don't trust most people to be able to either successfully focus and maintain focus or to take it seriously. With that being said, I have, in brief, gave a short rather un-detailed explanation of my own personal beliefs regarding ghosts, dark spirits, and the like. To give an even shorter explanation; I believe that reality has layers and levels often with their own laws of physics and forms of life and that sometimes we can see or experience "something" from these other layers and levels... Something I would like to add is something that my wife and I both share belief in. The "subconscious mind" of all life is connected in a sort of outside-our-reality "network" much akin to the internet, only more efficient, advanced, evolved, and no porn. This "Shared Subconsciousness" is also outside of time since time would have no use or place there. Time could have an equivalent alter-form but I have my doubts about that. So anyways, they, for me at least, accounts for many things that are unexplained or supernatural. Not trying to say that it is mundane or unimportant. Only that there could be something quite simple to explain what these things are. What some may view as terrifying or unnatural others may view as fun and normal. Like flying. Go back 2000 years and put a bunch of people on a plane. What would be going through their heads? Not the same thing as those who suffer through ticket lines and over-packed terminals of today. Its like Lilian said, people didn't used to believe in atoms. My wife is a fan of using germs, bacteria, and viruses in the same context. The thing is is that these things have always existed. We just didn't know it. Seems pretty damn scary that something that can't be seen with the naked eye can wipe out most of humanity... yet we have bacteria living in our bodies that we would die if it weren't there.

Sorry, I can't get quite long-winded at times.

There seems to be a minute particle that zips right through everything and some theorized this might be the connection for those ESP thoughts shared by people vast distances apart.
Everything on this world is connected much more than was ever realized just a few years ago. So many "Coincidences" have happened to me and in this house that any "Coincidental Mathematics" wouldn't be able to relegate it to being merely "The Odds".
Awake, asleep, in Dreams or trance, thoughts may take on a messenger sidekick who does our bidding or rats us out or simply astonishes us.
Such awareness no doubt helped our ancient ancestors to guess, "know" things, that kept them surviving longer than they could have if ignorant of such information.
I torn down a farmhouse, laid out maybe 100 boards in the grass. The next day as I was looking over my"new" lumber I guessed there was a snake under the next board I was about to turn over, and there WAS! Could there have been 5 snakes under 5 of those boards? Maybe. Maybe not?

some very good analogies and theories Lilith's Demon , i guess this would explain many poltergeist activity cases which are increasingly being associated with psychological links to teenage girls being the cause rather than supernatural , through parts of the brain we commonly do not use , some form of telekinesis or thought produced entities , indeed as just as much as fascinating and exciting as supernatural possibilities if you ask me. And these levels would also be valid links in theories of past lives and re - incarnation as well i believe , again tying in with GYM,S theories as well , all in all a riveting and fascinating subject which i need much much more education on i believe .
