If you're talking about an oscillating fan, those motors are typically very prone to over heating once you remove the fan blade. They rely on the moving air stream to stay cool.

Sorry, haven't been much lately, just saw this, what a coincidence, I finished mine several weeks ago, my take on Regan and her spinning head while on the bed, I even made a bed, don't know if it will help but I used a reindeer motor, fastened to inside of torso, I threaded a piece of coat hanger wire through the shaft, ran it straight up through the top of scalp, wrapped it halfway then pierced the head again midway and curled the end a bit inside
