Hello everyone. I just got the opportunity to do something really cool for the local Habitat for Humanity; donate a decorated chair for an auction called chairs for charity. Not knowing what to expect, I went mild and did a Florida theme chair that went well. I really had fun at the auction ans set my plans for next years chair. I decided that whether or not it appeals to the crowd, I want to do something that I want to do as an artist.

So what I have in mind is the Ravenoake chair which will be high backed with some sort of black cloth but I want to do the arms and legs as a twisted tree. It will have some raven 'carvings' as well. Won't be Halloween specific but very much what I like for Halloween :D.

Questions for everyone is what medium would work best for doing the twisted limbs but also be solid enough the chair could be used? Thanks

Wood was continuously "Steamed" 150 years ago to slowly make it be twistable.
A tourist attraction house in Rockford, Illinois "Tinker's Cottage" has a stair railing that twists going up steep stairs from the Library room, they said it took several years to twist it, under steam the entire time. (It's called "A Cottage" but it is really a house )

I like the idea of rubber if I can find the right thickness and coils. I also have used grapevines in the past for things where I soak the heck out of them to make them pliable, might have to look into the steam thing. Thanks guys!
