So I have a majority of my monster in a box done and I choose to go with pneumatics. I am using flow valve exhaust deals to control my movements and it is pretty loud. I thought about putting them remote but having to run all that hose is a hassle and an expense. Plus I am not sure how all that air in the line would effect control.

What have others done to combat this? I can insulate them a little more where they are but not sure if that is enough.

There are exhaust mufflers available. The cheap ones are just a fine mesh cone.
Running an exhaust hose, with a muffler on the end, is probably the best for sound dampening.
That way you can direct the sound away from the scene. Even a short run of exhaust hose will help.
It may affect timing depending on the length and ID of the hose.
*I have found that the sound of the air exhausting does not usually detract from the prop. If you want silent then go electric.

Along with what captpete said , if you can use a larger diameter hose for your exhaust hose it will not affect the timing as much due to less restriction in the larger diameter tubing.
