I plan on making some pumpkin people using a pvc frame pody and carvable foam pumpkins for the head. My initially plan is to coat the frame with Great Stuff expanding foam and then paint. I've always found Great Stuff to be a bit uncontrollable when using. Can anyone offer any other suggestions? I'm really just hoping to get some texture to the frame instead of just the smooth pvc.

Thanks.

Once you build your PVC frame, rough it up with some sandpaper. This will give the Great Stuff something to grip to and make it more secure. Also, as suggested, if you mist the Great Stuff it will cure faster. I don't think it hurts the integrity of the Great Stuff either.

If you don't want to use Great Stuff, you can use paper mache to create the limbs and vines. To make it stronger, use boiling water when creating the paste.

I'm making a knarly pumpkin scarecrow and I'm using tree branches wrapped in paper mache.

TK - I was going to use branches as well but I couldn't figure out how to make it stand upright once it was built. With the PVC I made it so that it can either stay on the plywood stand or I can take it off and slip it over rebar.

I do prefer the naturalness of the tree branches though.
