You can always try the Dollar Tree or other 99cent type store. Wal-Fart is good for toy guns. There are certain states that prohibit the sale of "toy guns" (and maybe certain countries) but you could always use some black spray paint on a squirt gun....

Search youtube for Desert Eagle Tutorial.... its basically made from card layered and ducttape but looks pretty impressive. I think the kids either called Travis or Parker and has a large series on weapons etc.

edit: heres the link YouTube - How to make a Desert Eagle

Ok, here's what you do. Go to Rite-Aid or Wallgreens, or Wal-Mart and get a $2 squirt gun pistol. They're usually translucent, colorful plastic.

Take the squirt gun home and paint it with oil-based modeling paints. You'll be surprised at how good it looks.

I made a couple prop guns a few years ago. I was able to buy a 9mm and a .45 style from Rite-Aid. Had some old modelling paints and went to town. For my guns, I actually filled them with sand to give them some weight.

Here is a pic of the 9mm prop pistols. (The .45s are in storage)
