Ok busted out the projector for the first time in our new house. Has planned on shooting it from our second story into the window for passers by to see. However ran into a few issues that hopefully someone can help me with.

When I shot it through the window the image seemed to reflect back and show off the wall leaving me with the small image in the glass and a huge second one behind it on the wall. Any ideas why? I had read that just shooting it through the window should be fine.

I wound up just turning the projector around and shooting off the wall for Halloween but still want to figure out why.

Not sure what you were trying to do. If you were trying to project the image onto the window so it appears from outside you need some type of scrim covering the inside of the window, you can't just project onto the glass.

Sounds like you were projecting directly on to the glass. You're supposed to place a screen in front of the glass, usually a frosted or white shower curtain liner works best. This makes the image look better from the outside and prevents any reflection. I've also found using a white shower curtain liner also prevents anyone from being able to see the projector bulb better than a frosted curtain.

You can project directly onto glass and it will be visible from outside, but the image isn't nearly as bright or defined as it is with a screen, plus you get the noted reflection issues and you can easily see the projector itself if you're at the right viewing angle.

I used a shower curtain but the image still reflected back in the wall.

How far is the shower curtain supposed to be from the window? I had it about 8 inches away but the image still was reflecting in addition to showing on the window

What kind of shower curtain? Was it clear? I found the frosted cheap ones from the dollar store work good. I just tape it to the frame of the window and shot the prone for right at it. I move the projector back till the image fills the frame nicely.

I use a white shower curtain liner on the inside of the window and it works well.
Clear or frosted liners don't work (as) well.

If it was just plain clear I don't think that would work well. Usually the frosted or real thin white ones work. I never actually used a white sheet or white shower curtain. Try it with a frosted cheap one from the dollar store. Look for frosted. That works well for me. Plus it's only a dollar. I have to give white a try.

I used projector for first time this year to project pirate ship and zombie pirates to TOT's. I used a thin white shower curtain from the Pound Store and stretched it tight across the window. Didn't make anything fancy just cut it to size and stuck down with blu-tack.I just moved the projector back until it filled the screen. It worked really well and was very clear from the front, and you couldn't see anything in the kitchen through it.

We tried using a frosted shower curtain liner last year and it was okay. We went to a white one this year and it worked better at hiding the projector from view.

I just tape plain old wax paper to my windows to project on. Works great!

For my projector I use black landscape cloth
You can kind of see it (bid green eye on right in the background)

as already mentioned by the other posters, i've had the best results with the cheapest shower curtain liner that you can get a walmart

i've been meaning to experiment with a black scrim between the shower curtain liner and the window but haven't done so as of yet

the landscaping fabric sounds interesting ... i've also been meaning to test that as well

I use a Shear White Chiffon (Same stuff as a prom dress) purchased at Joann Fabric it hangs wrinkle free and shows the image on both sides.
I staple a 1 X 2" stick to the top edge and to the bottom edge which pulls it flat
Its more expensive than a white shower curtain but I can reuse every year without folding up a plastic shower curtain and dealing with the wrinkles every year.
