That is really great and I love the attention to detail - a popcorn stand that actually pops is pretty nifty!

I'm pretty sure they sell fake plastic popcorn at christmas strung on lines as garlands... It would be really cool to see some strands arching out of that popper.

Looks good, great idea. I am not as technical as that:eek:, so when we did Creepy Carnival I attached a travel hairdryer to the underneath of our popcorn machine and it blew it about which had a quite a good effect when it was it was lit up on the night. I also had a small wax melt lit in Popcorn fragrance, that was hidden behind the garden wall and the smell was just great as people came up the drive, really added to the atmosphere:) could be an idea to go with yours

The idea is to have real popcorn blowing around intermittently. I will have some popcorn coming out of the kettle. There are four plexi sides that will keep everything in. There will also be cavorting rats, crows and other creepies crawling around the popcorn and eating out of the boxes. Here is a prelim video of the rats, only about half done without all the creepy effects.

a hairdryer would work great, i hope the heat setting was off! I am trying to keep the sound down, it might be too loud. I was going to try a fan hidden down below that would blow the popcorn around.

I just added a testing for some flying crank spiders to my popcorn machine. It uses a small AC motor from ebay that turns at about 5 rpm, similar to a deer motor. I added 4 spiders but plan on fidgeting with it a bit more to get them in a better movement. What's cool is I don't have to hide the fishing line!

That is really shaping up to be one cool concession machine! I like how the spiders don't all seem to drop down the same distance and appear staggered. Nicely done. This is going to be so cool. So do you have a lot of trick or treaters or was this for a party? I hope a lot of kids get to see this in any event.

Yes, we get a lot, I think i went thru 700 pieces of candy last year in 3 hours. I am in South Philly in a row home. I only have my porch to fit everything in, it's about 5x14 feet. I usually do a window display for a month before Halloween, then the weekend before decorate the porch. On Halloween i decorate the sidewalk. This machine will be going out on the sidewalk. I am planning a number of things, including a palm reader/tarot/fortune teller/crystal ball thing, a Ouija board, a bunch of clowns, a sword swallower, an organ grinding clown with a monkey, and if I have time and space, a sideshow with oddities.

I remember a couple years ago I made a flying crank ghost in the window that none of the kids noticed... all they were interested in was the $3 flying bat that flew around in a circle from my porch. One kid, dressed as Batman, cowered away from it and ran up the street... never saw him again!

Don't worry I didn't melt everything!:D With it been a travel hairdryer the sound wasn't too bad and having it on the low setting was enough to blow it around so not so loud. I did stop it once in a while as I was conscious of it been on for too long and my popcorn machine really going with a bang!. I also on purposely put it near the player with the carnival music playing as well. A fan would work well too though, look forward to seeing it. The rats are brilliant...I so wish I lived near you and I would book in with you for a course on animatronics....you make things look so easy:) my Hubby cringes every time he sees me with a plug or wire or my hand! I was thinking as well, to go along with your machine, I did a creepy food box (like the ones they used to carry in cinemas with ice-creams in on a strap) I carried it around for a bit when the party was on as I was a kind of a creepy refreshment seller, but then put it on the buffet table among the normal food. People really liked it, the hot dogs were just those plastic squeaky dog toys, the toffee apples were just plastic apples on sticks, the candy floss was just spider webbing wrapped around stick painted pink and the ice-cream just cotton wool in tubs. ,Thought you could maybe include something similar with your moving rats. I had a sign with alternative names on as well: They were called 'Refleshments' and I had Rot Dogs, Finger Fries, Eye Scream, Candy Moss, Lollyslops, Stodgy Apples and for drinks we had Pesty Cola:)

I am limited in space, so I will probably just do the Popcorn, unless I can steal some space from my neighbors. We live on a small street with row homes, I might convince them to turn their porches into carnival stalls and I'll have more room for stuff. You can see last year's display really filled my porch:
Tree Plant Art

But, as it is, I can only have 3-4 "big" props and I fill it in with smaller ones. I am already doing a palm reader tent, organ grinder, clowns, and the popcorn machine. I will also have a small side show with a man eating chicken, a tatooless lady, freaky little animals and curiosities with gory stuff in jars.

I kind of like it without the popcorn. It makes it look haunted. However the rats are great, but would probably look better with popcorn. Can you get rat skeletons? That would be awesome too. Kind of like they starved to death and are spending eternity endlessly foraging.
