Party on The Wong Day, would you?

I am in a bit if dilemma. I have a small Halloween party for my close friends, and have for the last 4 years. I'm based in Denmark and Halloween isn't really big here. It's picked up a lot over the last few years tho, and I'm really loving arranging it.
The last two party's I've had the pleasure of borrowing this great basement room, just across the road, where my friend lives. It's perfect for many themes and years year no exeption.
Unfortunately we misunderstood each other and I thought she booked the room, but I just found out she didn't, and that someone else booked it in Halloween!!! Waaaaahhh!!!!!!! I'm so annoyed. First of the room is free, and renting a party room is really pricey! and my apartment is really to small for a party, of this kind. Also I always have the party on "the last Saturday of October" so that everyone knows and can make their schedules fit. I've been thinking all day, if I should cancel the party, but then I just realised maybe I can host it on Saturday the 24th, in the next-to-last weekend. But.. Somehow it doesn't feel right. Is it silly? Is a date just a date and it's about the months of October? I mean it's not like I've had it on the 31st the other years anyway.
What would you do?

I vote for having it on the 24th, but I totally understand your disappointment. If Halloween was bigger over there, then it could lead to better attendance not to be on Halloween if parents were wanting to take their kids trick or treating, but that sounds like it may not be a factor.

No one goes trick or treating here at night - in some big cities they have started a bit on the day, so won't be an issue. Yet hehe.. Hopefully I'm a few years :) I just realised if I'm having the party in the 24th I can go and attend something Halloween-ish somewhere else, where I'm not the host and just enjoy my evening. Hmm.. Not a bad thought :)

That's what we do - we have our party the week before, and then can concentrate on Halloween itself on its own day. Works very well for us!. :)

Cool. Well I think I'm at least gonna see if the place is available on the 24th.. And then check with some of the guests I know already put the 31st in their calendars, and see if they can still come.

I always have my party the Saturday before Halloween, it works well. Then you can relax on the big day.

Oh Well, turns out people can't come on the 24st so there goes that idea. Sulk!
For what its worth, Where we go camping, they host a Halloween weekend, the two weekends before Halloween. This is the second year in a row we drew two weeks before Halloween. And from past experience the park is just a busy as it is the weekend before Halloween. The park is bumper to bumper all night with people driver through. Friends make the party not the date.
Halloween isnt huge here in the UK either. I've held a party as early as the 25th simply because its become easier telling people we hold our party on the nearest Friday on or before Halloween. It has never made any difference to attendance or enjoyment.
We always have our party the weekend before Halloween weekend. This year, we might even have it 2 weekends before, so in my opinion, no, it's not silly at all.
