Something else I learned today...

When using a brand new Latex Spray Gun to paint the exterior of your mausoleum -- make sure the family minivan is far enough away that it doesn't get a dusting of paint!

I've learned that one the hard way too - painted a gazebo in the backyard a few years ago with one of these, and the windows of the house (about 15' away) caught a nice speckling of paint.

I'd suggest either 1) parking upwind, a long way off, or 2) covering anything that you don't want painted with a tarp.

In a way I would agree with you. I am at a little bit of an advantage because of what I do for a living. But, I know for a fact I would be a lot further along if I spent some money on this stuff. I even changed my theme so that I could work it into my free stuff. The pieces that you have knocked out in such a short amount of time have me lagging way behind. Maybe I will just come over and check out your stuff on Halloween and call it good.

Did you get any pics of your painting before you had to buff out the mini van?

Ok TK, surprised you didn't build a quick paint booth. Using your 1x2's, frame out four walls, take plastic drop cloth and cover the frames using your pnuematic stapler to attach the plastic to the frame, assemble the four walls using clamps to secure three of the corners (leave one unattached to allow you to enter/exit). You can cover the top also if you need to, but remember to cut some "U" shapped vents in the walls to allow additional air to flow in. paint stays in and cars, houses, people, pets, and landscaping remain paint free.

At first I was thinking that would be a huge spray booth. But, he has built everything to be modular, so he could build a smaller booth and take the pieces in one by one.

I found a wagner at a yard sale for $5 a few weeks ago, was in a hurry didn't read the box, it's for shooting stain, dang it! From my previous exp with wagners though, hate em!
Going to have a yard sale maybe sat and get rid of a lot of this crap!

In retrospect, a paint booth, or at least some protective walls, would be helpful. I should have thought of that, but I was just so excited to start using the spray gun, I forgot.

I've moved the mausoleum onto the grass and tomorrow I will put down by big drop cloth and protect the lawn. Put a few other tarps around to protect anything else that might be close.

speaking of garage sales...how often do you see power tools for sale at them?

Are pawn shops worth checking for old power tools that can be used for props.....like a reciprocting saw for a monster in a box?

Right now, pawn shops are a great place for power tools. A lot of people are pawning "slightly used" tools for some quick cash. A friend of mine picked up a dutch model table saw (really nice) for pennies on the dollar. A brand new model with the expansion table and everything could cost $4,000 or more. He got his for about $400.

And there are tons of sanders and drills and stuff available. I'm going over today to check a local pawn shop for router bits and a disk sander.

Here is a current close-up of the mausoleum I'm building to show some of the color detail you can get with the sprayer. By changing the pattern and flow, you can get everything from a fine mist to a strong coating spray to a spitting splatter effect.

I am really liking this new toy!!!
