My river exploded! Need water help ASAP!

2177 Views 14 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  Eerie Erie Haunts
Our yard haunt has a bridge over a haunted river. We made the river from a water blob (plastic sheeting melted together to form a pillow. Fill with water. Voila) Problem is, my water blob rolled over on itself, broke the fence and rolled down the street! I chased it down and it burst in half, exploding all over me. Now I have a broke fence (I can repair) and no river! I'm out of time and ideas. How do I make a fake river really quickly?

A roll of blue-tinted mylar film? http://www.amazon.com/Reflective-My...TF8&qid=1414349494&sr=8-1&keywords=mylar+roll

Roll it out, and shape it to look like a stream. Crumpled up a bit, so it looks like water is flowing? Shouldn't look too bad at night, especially with the right lighting.

Edit: As an alternative, I suppose that even aluminum foil (shiny side up) might work as well, especially with some blue lighting.

I like Saruman's suggestion. I'm having trouble picturing your setup however. Any chance for a quick pic so we know the space and what you have to work with?
The river needs to be on both sides of the bridge. About 12 ft long on the left and 4 ft long on the right.

In this pic I have clear sheeting down, scrunched up to look like water with small hits of black paint. I can do more blue paint and hit it with a blue spotlight. I just don't know if that will be enough. It looks really white right now.

Would a small fan blowing onto either the plastic or mylar give the effect of the water moving?
Why on Gods green earth was there not a video of this happening?? LOL

What about the blue spotlights that are wavy? They give off a watery effect.

I know I saw a thread here that said that somebody is using these for water in their haunt.

There is a video at the link both links.

Scroll down this page to see the effect, Some kind person took a great video.

I would try to get a few of these if you are out of options.

It was extremely hilarious! I was laughing at myself the whole while. It was just as funny as you're imagining. :)

Went to HD today and they were out of those lights. I picked up a spotlight though. I'll go test the lights once it gets dark. The lights and this damn river are the last things I have to sort out!

That is horrible! Oh man! I thought for sure those lights would save you! Can you call around to another HD in your area?

I wish you the best luck in fixing your prop. It sounds like you are extremely tenacious and will pull it out.

Maybe some strings of blue mini-lights under some painters plastic sheeting?

Might look like water, especially if they twinkle.

On a side note: Did anyone video your mishap for YouTube? :)
It's officially dark and I've spent an hour outside aging with lights and cords. Yay!

So the clear plastic sheeting with the blue spotlight from HD is a success. So relieved!

Ignore the floods just behind the river. I haven't figured those out just yet. I'll add the right side of the river tomorrow. Now that I know how to do it!

Don't know if you have plans on lighting the bridge but I think it would really make it stand out. Hard to see in the photo. Is this something kids will cross to get to your door? The water looks good. So does the yard!

The bridge should get some light once I put water with a spot on the right side. It that light doesn't hit it, I'll put some mason jars or luminaries down. We do have a bright street light on our property (which is why the water is reflecting so much) but the bridge is very visible in person. Yes, it is the only way into the yard. Unless they want to climb over cars or 5 foot azalea bushes. Which I wouldn't be surprised!
Only on Halloween (or in Cleveland) does the phrase "my river exploded" make perfect sense.

Glad you got a fix in time!
