Looks amazing. I completely stole your method for doing the hands. It's creepy how realistic they look. Wife talked me into using an artifical pumpkin for the head (covered in burlap) but after repeatedly seeing yours I'm regretting that... the human-shaped head is so much creepier...

[email protected] great scarecrow! I agree with all the others that what makes it is the proportions and pose. I hope the lanterns are bright enough to illuminate the face and hands because they are so realistic it would be ashame if they get lost in the shadows. And thanks for the prop building info.

Amazing job! The talent on this forum never ceases to amaze me... How do you get him to stay upright? Are those landscape timbers? Just wondering because here in Il we have so much wind in October I have a hard time keeping my props in one place :(
Yes they are landscaping timbers. I drilled the ends into them with a long 3/4in spoade bit. Drilled about a foot in on each post and splice the two posts together with a 3/4 steel rod. Then I had a 8x10 light guage piecs of sheet metal and "bandaded" over the two ends put together. Screwed the plate to the posts with some tapper screws and too some small rope and wrapped it around the metal plate to cover it. That's why rope is wrapped inthe middle of the post. Hope that makes sense to ya.

Nothing really. I just used 3/4 PVC pipe. I used 45 degree elbows for his shoulder and elbow joints with gave his arms the wrap around effect on the cross post. It just a matter of positioning everything right. He's pretty much sitting up their all by himself.

Quick question, how did you attach the head? Was it to the t fitting in the middle of the torso?
All I did was when I built the PVC frame, I just added a 3/4 tee with 4"ish neck. The head is a styrofoam head. It already has a hole in the bottom. It's pretty much just sitting on it. Pretty basic really. It was all trial and error.

Where'd you get the hat? I'm going scarecrow for halloween, in part inspired by yours (I'm wrapping barbed wire across it's face in that X over the mouth, similar to yours (though yours doesnt appear to be barbed wire - I thought it was cool). Cant find a damn hat I like ANYWHERE.

I bought the hat at Halloween City during there after Halloween sale last year. I bought it for $5. I just bent and shaped it to my liking. Its a cheap felt "Zorro" looking style hat. They stillsell them.
