Here is a video of the backwards spinning clock that I made at the end of last year. It is carved out of 2" foam and has a simple motor mounted onto the back of it, going through the foam to spin the hands. There are also two speakers and an MP3 player in the back of the clock, to make the sound. The other sounds you hear are of the rest of my display.
