Hey guys, I am going to start making some weapons for characters next year. I want to mold and cast real weapons or tools and reproduce those in a another material. My question is, what material to use? I don't want to use foam, I want something a little stouter than that. But, resin? Would that be best?

You may also want to check out theRPF forum. Those guys and gals do scifi weapons and recreate movie props. I have gotten a lot of ideas over there and they are willing to share how they did things, almost as much as the people here do. The only reason I recommend them, is that this sort of thing is right up there alley.

Hello. I think you could get the desired results with a foam product. I have attached a link to the BITY Mold Supply videos. You could use a higher density foam and include something inside to stiffen the final product. Best of luck and have fun!

That's funny, bc I just watched about a dozen of their videos and I'm pretty sure I will use their stuff. Like some of the things I saw. Looks pretty easy too.

I've been researching molding and casting methods myself, and BITY is a great resource. I found this awesome tutorial on their website, which has all the information you need concerning materials, methods, and calculations:

Incidentally, this is a PDF which you can download for free.
