Is it just me, or does anyone else think their selection this year is really poor? I think they've pretty much put out what they're going to get, but it's mostly last year's left overs, and all that bling crap. Even the resin tombstones are cheesy. I'm not seeing anything that looks even marginally appealing. Hoping the other retailers have a better selection.

I have yet to see what they've got in this year, but I had noticed about two years ago that the quality of their products has changed quite a bit; that includes The Lemax Spookytown collection. I'm not a collector, I only purchased one Spookytown item a long while back, but a friend bought one of the newer ones and the differences were awfully noticeable...

I bought two of their grabbing skeletons, a couple boxes of orange LEDs and two of their large styrofoam heads....mostly to use up coupons I had.

I went back last night with 50% off coupon and couldn't find a thing I wanted to buy. I don't decorate inside, so that eliminates most of their stuff. The tombstones are too small. I'd thought the witch at half off would be a good deal, but I don't use witches in my haunt.

While I find their selection to be less than exciting this year, I was not surprised. I think we will see less and less holiday merchandise as long as the economy continues in the current state. People are just not buying non-esentials and stores don't want to be stuck clearancing a large amount of their merchandise.
I must say though, about Michael's, I think they are some of the biggest price-gougers on the planet! A 50% off coupon only brings their price down to "fairly reasonable" so I laugh at their 20% off 'sales".
The store I am most disappointed in is Garden Ridge. No more Lemax and no more life size Gemmys. I now have no reason to shop there at all.

So I finally got out there today and I have to say that yes it is awfully disappointing merch this year. I didn't like the idea of the bling, a lot of the decor looks tacky and poorly made. I'm pretty bummed out with it all; the only thing I would maybe purchase is a skeleton bust, or maybe the the tarantula lights...but probably not for the prices they had them at.

I have to agree with you judubbya...I'm a bit dissapointed myself. But I also agree with the other members who said that due to the economy, selection might be a little sparse this year. I guess that means that we have to be more creative, huh?

their selection has certainly forced me to be more creative.... see what I can use from different areas of the store and transform it into things we want/need. Michaels is pretty much IT for Halloween in our Area right now unless we Drive up to LA. I have purchased one little sign for my bedroom door that says "here lives a witch and all her monsters" because I have kitties that think they belong in my room. Otherwise I haven't wanted or needed to purchase anything from their Halloween selections. I can't wait for Walmart to put out their stuff in September... We have only have 6 weeks until we set up... If they don't have it, I won't have time to make it... Curse this economy!

..ah, you have to love London Ontario...
the DOLLARAMA is up and running with their Halloween stuff coming in..nothing INSPRIATIONAL yet, but it's the thought that counts..
MICHAELS has two or three rows and a middle aisle with stuff...including those 'spooky' noisemakers that are actually just annoying..and a lot of signs that say cutesy things like "Hostess with the ghostess" or something like that..you can just SEE Martha Stewart cooing:" Oh, isn't that CLEVER???" Yeah, we have the Halloween village here too...
AND Value Village is putting their stuff out...this is their craziest time of the year, and when I was in the other day, they had two long long rows out with wig forms on it...you just HAVE to go back and see what will go on them.

So...Garden Ridge is no longer carrying any Lemax at all? I tried calling the nearest store which is about a hour away but they no longer accept phone calls. I was going to drive there next week because Michael's has only part of the 2009 Spookytown collection (which is seriously overpriced).

I agree. The selection is not as great as last year's. The store near me has maybe 1 1/2 aisle's worth of stuff. I do like some of their light displays, but that "bling" crap is pretty lame. The really annoying part, though? They've put out their Christmas stuff too. Now, I do celebrate Christmas...I just get tired of seeing it right next to the Halloween stuff...in a bigger aisle...in AUGUST. lol
